I’ve been here a few times and the food is usually pretty good and everything else is average to good. I went today however and the food was disappointing. I ordered the roast which was a special and cost £14.95. Pictured is what I was served.
Very dry roasties that hadn’t been cooked properly (no duck or goose fat in sight) and if anything had obviously been reheated over time. The vegetables had no seasonings and were terribly bland - they also tasted over boiled. The parsnips were were lukewarm at best and dried out. The turkey was thin, dry, and unpleasant. I got one pig in a blanket which I felt was stingy. The gravy was watery and just tasted like packet gravy. Ultimately, I felt a bit cheated. I can make a roast like this for a fraction of the price per plate and have a much better result. There’s no reason why a restaurant can’t do the same.
If the kitchen staff were too overwhelmed to handle all the individual components of this dish alongside their usual fare, I think this would have been better served as a Sunday only special. That way more people will be ordering it and less of the on menu items and it will likely be of a higher quality because kitchen staff won’t be having to make so many different things at once.
This wouldn’t stop me from returning to the beach house, but I certainly think I’ll be avoiding any of their roast specials from now on. Stick to their sandwiches and fries,...
Read moreThis has the makings of an amazing burger / beach restaurant. Apart from its fries, it is anything but. A perfunctory greating of ‘wait there, can you see any free tables’ sarcastically directed against my excitedly advancing children stopped us in our tracks. I nearly left. They were busy so late food arrival was warned and expected - no problems there. Major objection raised to when, dining in I asked for a glass ‘glass’ for still water. Why? Surely not plastic? The prawns in the ‘pint of’ were warm and tangy, worst than any you could buy yourself, the bacon on the ceaser salad was ‘piggy’ and lord knows what the dressing was. It was hardly eaten. The drinks waitress was lovely but wearing a hard service weary smile and the fries…were great. The menu is unaltered in five or more years and needs some proper research - like the book it had for sale championing local produce and other restaurants recipes (really!) at the till whilst selling neither. This restaurant is squandering its location, and is badly in need of change. We go there for its amazing location. Next time,...
Read moreA beautiful spot on Guernsey’s stunning North coast, with the stunning panoramic Pembroke Bay in full view from the restaurant Plenty of outside tables on a veranda overlooking the bay, with screens to protect you if it’s a bit windy, but also a large café style seating area inside Due to the openness of the area, it can be a little noisy inside when busy, as it was on this day I had the All Day Breakfast at £10 and my wife had the £15 Steak Ciabatta Sandwich with fries. Could have maybe done with a Hash Brown on the breakfast, but was good value. Food was good, typical cafe style, simple Service was fairly quick, staff attentive and cleared tables very quickly We started off outside, but due to a heavy rain shower, had to quickly move inside, but all was done with no fuss Good spot for kids too, with a flat, sandy beach...
