We took the boat out to Neptune’s for a day of snorkeling and relaxing. It was perfect! We rode our scooter to the boat pickup spot which is directly off the main road, right before Chepas Beach you’ll see a Neptune sign. You drive down the little dirt path and then you’ll see the dock. As of today’s writing the boat fee is 80 lempiras per person round trip which is super affordable and worth the ride through the majestic mangroves. Don’t worry about paying the boat directly. You’ll be billed for it at Neptunes when you close out your tab. The snorkeling was really good! Two dive bouy markers show you where to go and there’s a nice long dock to launch off of and a ladder for climbing out. Tons of amazing fish! We saw groupers, trumpet fish plus many many others. We did two long snorkels and enjoyed every second. If you don’t have your own gear they have some for you to borrow. The food and service were great. Super sweet, friendly staff and a huge menu with something for everyone. I got a house made vegan burger on a homemade rosemary focaccia bun. The burger was made of carrots and potato and other good stuff. Super yummy! My husband got the traditional burger and he said it was great. We both also got fries that were pipping hot and crispy. The whole day with food, boat, and four non alcoholic beverages cost us just under $40....
Read moreWe stayed at Neptunes after doing the backpacking thing in hostels for awhile because we wanted to splurge a little for my birthday. This place was amazing — the rooms were gorgeous and super clean and the service was top notch. Loved the giant open-air showers. One morning I got sick while scuba diving, and the boat had dropped me off on the shore so I could go back to my room, and one of the hotel managers saw me get off the boat and met me with some soda water and dramamine, it was that extra level of service that put this place above the rest. The price is obviously more than the cheap hostels on the island, but way cheaper than something comparable you'd find in the States. After the day guests left, we had the private beach to ourselves. Brooke, the manager, made sure we were taken care of at all times and when we needed to get to town and back to the airport. And the food...
Read moreThis was THE best find in Utila! A big group of our friends went to spend the afternoon. The boat ride is free (from Coral View area), and totally worth it! The beach is beautiful, with great reefs for snorkeling. The restaurant is reasonably priced, with good food. They’ll keep a tab running for you and you can pay when you leave. There’s sand volleyball, beach chairs and picnic tables, and they’ll rent out paddle boards and snorkel gear (L.100/hour). I will definitely go back next time I’m on the island. The beach was much more family friendly and less crowded than the public beach. Gorgeous area.
The boat leaves every hour from 10am to 5pm to get to Neptune’s. The boat fills quickly and only seats about 12 people. So get there early. Since we can with a big group, they made two trips for us. But when we left, some of our group had to stay behind to catch the...
