Anyukám Mondta – A Hidden Gem in the Hungarian Countryside
I was truly shocked to discover such a high-caliber restaurant tucked away in the remote Hungarian village of Encs. From start to finish, this is on par with sophisticated, capital-city dining – a level of quality that far exceeds expectations for the countryside. 🌟 High-End Culinary Experience
The Dudás brothers, after training in Italy and New York, brought real expertise back to their home region. The menu features exceptional Italian-Hungarian cuisine, including wood-fired pizzas, homemade bread, seafood, smoked meats, chamber specialties, and house-made desserts. Every dish is built on top-notch ingredients—many sourced locally, with key Italian imports like tomatoes and pizza dough delivered weekly . 🍷 Quality Food & Wine Pairings
I sampled fried chicken with excellent flavor and a crispy, secret batter over creamy mash. The pizza had a superb crust and fresh tomato toppings sourced from Italy’s Puglia region. Desserts like strawberry pavlova and homemade cheesecake showcased genuinely flavorful local produce. The wine list is also impressive, with around 50 labels including Hungarian gems like Furmint and Aszú, priced significantly lower than in Budapest. 😊 Atmosphere & Service
The interior blends relaxed countryside charm with modern style, offering indoor dining and a lovely garden terrace. Service is smooth, friendly, and polite—no rushed pace but definitely attentive. 🏆 Recognition & Value
This restaurant has earned a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide—an award for excellent quality at reasonable cost—and is consistently praised as one of Hungary’s top regional restaurants. Despite its rural location, quality matches or even exceeds many urban competitors. 🎯 In Short
Finding Anyukám Mondta in rural Hungary felt like striking gold. It offers a level of culinary excellence and ambiance more common in Budapest than in Encs. I was genuinely impressed and would recommend it to anyone craving refined dining off the beaten path—a true standout worth the journey.

We had a wonderful experience at Anyukám mondta in Encs. The interior design is well thought out – from the carefully restored old brick and wooden plank floors to every single element of the decor. It has a cozy, slightly barn-like feel, but with a touch of elegance that makes it truly unique. The small back garden is also a lovely addition – intimate and peaceful.
As for the food: absolutely outstanding. Every dish we tried was delicious and special. For example, the Italian-style tripe stew was served with a bread roll filled with blood sausage baked into the crust – a truly original and flavorful creation. Portions were just right, and the pricing was more than fair for the quality offered.
The only minor remark I would make is about the kimchi salad – while it was fresh and well-prepared, I missed a hint of sweetness to balance the sour and slightly bitter notes. Still, this was a small detail in an otherwise exceptional meal.
Service-wise, everything was fine, but our waiter didn’t seem particularly friendly – more neutral or slightly indifferent. It didn’t ruin the experience, but a warmer attitude would have added to the overall atmosphere.
All in all, this place is absolutely worth a visit. A memorable culinary and aesthetic experience. Highly...
Read moreThis place got really famous in the last years, but it's yet to show your typical urban-style elitism, staying true to itself and a relaxing diner to visit with your friends/ family anytime. (Keep in mind that reservation is strongly recommended^^)
The prices are down-to-earth, I'd even say low, considering the quality and creativity behind the cuisine. The service was also excellent, I actually felt as a guest (which is rare nowadays imho). The food - I cant say much. It's really good, and I will need to go there several times to steal the secrets :)
I'd say it's worth your time, even if you are not lucky like me who happened to be around the area, but need to travel several hours. (And the region is beautiful anyways^^)
Keep up...
