GOOGLE: This is NOT "fake engagement." I still have the bill from when I ate at this restaurant, which I'll happily provide. Stop banning this review!
TL;DR: If you're in Esztergom and are wondering where to have lunch or dinner, THIS is the place. You will NOT regret it!
This is hands-down one of the best restaurants as well as overall experiences I ever had. My girlfriend and I came up from Budapest for the weekend and visited this place in late February 2024. She is Hungarian and knows Hungarian food, and we are both pretty discerning when it comes to what we eat and where.
There are two aspects that stand out in particular: The food itself. It is FRESH, very well made, expertly seasoned, and the portions are generous. The menu is not extensive, which is always a good sign as it tends to mean the restaurant specializes in what it does and it does it well, which is certainly the case here.
The location. We hiked up the hill (though there's a road to drive up also) and, as the pictures submitted by others show, you sure do get rewarded. Though it was still pretty cool in late Feb. afternoon, we sat out on the terrace (clean blankets were provided) and boy, were we glad we did! The terrace offers unparalleled panoramic views for dozens of miles across the entire region. Eating delicious food while savoring the divine view is an unforgettable experience.
The staff (we were served by a gentleman who may be the owner - not sure) is attentive and courteous. Best of all, for all you get, you do not pay through the nose. We ordered two appetizers, two entrees, a couple salads, and a dessert, all for around $60 (22,000 Fts., incl. tip).
Bonus: There's a little pen just adjacent to the parking lot with a bunch of kid goats in it. Such a delightful little surprise -...
Read moreStepping into Vaskapu Etterem in Esztergom is like being transported into a culinary haven. The ambiance of the restaurant is inviting, combining modern elegance with traditional elements that pay homage to Hungary's rich cultural history.
From the appetizer to the dessert, every course is a celebration of flavors. Their Foie Gras is velvety smooth, beautifully presented, and tastes heavenly. The Catfish Paprikash, a traditional Hungarian dish, is another showstopper. It showcases the perfect balance of spices and the fish is cooked to perfection.
But what elevates this dining experience to the next level is the service. The staff are exceedingly professional, courteous, and attentive without being intrusive. They're well-versed in the intricacies of the menu and are more than willing to make personalized recommendations.
The location of the restaurant is also ideal, offering panoramic views that serve as the perfect backdrop to an already exquisite meal.
Dining at Vaskapu Etterem is more than just a meal; it's an experience that tantalizes all the senses. Whether you are a local or a visitor exploring Esztergom, this restaurant is an unmissable culinary...

ENG: We visited the restaurant with a friend and her dog after an evening of visiting the viewpoints of the wide landscape. It's a typical cruise restaurant with plenty of seating outside (on the terrace) and inside too. We arrived practically an hour before closing time but still got to order anything on the menu. To our surprise, the menu included a typical "Czech" dish - fried cheese. So we couldn't resist. And I have to say (as a good connoisseur of this dish) that it was awesome, with the expected taste, both of cheese and fries. A pleasant surprise was the mayonnaise, the one Czech expects "tartar sauce" but the local sauce was delicious. Yum. A very nice place, dog friendly and with amazing views of Esztergom, the Danube and the surrounding countryside. Whenever I'm here in the future, this is where I'm...
