Határmenti Vigadó — Restaurant in Kőszegi járás

I went with family to eat this restaurant on the Hungarian / Austrian border. It is a converted farm house kept rustic and the ambiance and views of the valley and hills are amazing!

The food and wines are local, served oversized and affordable. We enjoyed our initial visit so much, that days after we returned for my farewell. Again, the food and drinks did not disappoint. The property also has a small playground for kids, which could be expanded upon and perhaps made a bit safer. The bathrooms are not great and in need of care as well.

Once, we ate outside under grapevines and the second time in the open barn. The waiters can get busy and a call-ahead is recommended for weekends. We were not the only foreigners in the restaurant, so knowledge of the quality of their cuisine must have spread.

Lastly, I recommend paying in your countries' currency, since the exchange rate is likely better when paying by card vs paying in Hungarian Forint. It's not expensive either way, but it will certainly save you a few dollars or euros.

I will certainly frequent this excellent restaurant again when...

Last time I visited on a Sunday afternoon there was only one free table, altough it is a really huge restaurant with nice terrace. I could also order right in time, but the waiters very enormously busy. There are simply not enough of waiters. I saw they were working hard but there are too much customers. To sum up, I had to order everything twice to get it once, and this is not a joke. The soup tasted like water, but a huge portion of water. To be fair I have to say the main dish was a huge portion too, but it had no taste. At the end I ordered a coffee and a water which I never got. After 15 minutes I asked for the bill (I could somehow immediately pay...) and left. It seems that the crew had no time left for the toilet too: no soap, no paper.

this peaceful place is special and everyones knows - from far and wide people visit and leave happy like nowhere else. servings are plentyful and you can escape from every modern pain that plagues this time. servers are more than competent and engaged to bring you the best experience - no matter the time or catostrophy that hunts this existence we have to bath out now.
