Beitarhúsið is a true oasis in the remote Icelandic landscape, functioning as a restaurant, convenience store, and gas station. This multi-purpose stop is a lifesaver, especially when traveling between East Iceland and Akureyri. Their offerings are surprisingly diverse, featuring hearty warm soup perfect for chilly days, delicious desserts, and a variety of cookies. The main food menu is excellent, though it's worth noting that vegetarian options are limited.
What truly sets Beitarhúsið apart is its exceptional service. The staff are incredibly attentive and prompt, ensuring every guest feels well-cared for. It's an indispensable stop for anyone journeying through this part of Iceland, providing essential provisions and a...

Read moreThis is a a roadside restaurant and self-service gas station around Route 1 around halfway between Lake Myvatn and Egilsstaðir. Makes for a nice rest break from driving and a good place for a quick bite to eat when driving the Ring Road in this part of Iceland. Opening hours are 9am to 7pm daily.
Menu is focused with a few kitchen prepared savoury dishes and some cakes on the counter. We tried their hot dog which was fine and the lamb soup which was quite yummy. Service was friendly, indoor seating was cozy and comfortable. Overall, Beitarhúsið was a good little stop, one we'd be glad to make again if finding ourselves in this part of Iceland...
