I recently had the pleasure of visiting Fjallakaffi, and it exceeded all expectations. The staff's proficiency in English added a welcoming touch. The magical atmosphere during the middle of winter made the experience truly special. The cozy wood-designed interior with multiple seating areas created a warm and inviting ambiance. The journey, though an 8km drive off Route 1, was absolutely worth it. As you venture into what seems like nowhere, the anticipation builds, leading you to one of the most remote farms in Iceland. The payoff is extraordinary with spectacular views and an atmosphere that captures the essence of the Icelandic winter. Fjallakaffi is a hidden gem, making the drive a memorable part of the overall experience. If you find yourself near Highway 1, don't hesitate to make the detour – it's an adventure well worth taking.

We didn't stay in the hotel but utilized the camping facility here. There's no light in the kitchen so if you arrive late, be prepared to cook in the dark. The restrooms were clean but hot water was hit or miss. The location is 30 min away from the main road, so it's not the most convenient place to get to, but you do get to see the natural beauty of Iceland and some native animals. There's also a restaurant where you can get a buffet breakfast. It's a unique experience to be able to visit this part of Iceland.

We had an amazing stay. We stayed at the hotel, and the complex is in the middle of nowhere with a lot of magic. The room was very nice, with private bathroom and a shared area where you can have tea and coffee. The restaurant was AMAZING. For dinner we tried the Arctic char and the lamb; for breakfast they offer a small buffet with different options like egg, beans, bacon, bread, etc. Definitely recommend to stay here on your trip to Iceland,

We recently had the misfortune of staying at the cottage guesthouse in Fjalladyrd, Iceland, and I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others. While the concept of immersing guests in the charm of traditional turf houses sounds appealing, the reality is anything but.|For about $400 per night, we expected at least a modicum of comfort and amenities, but what we encountered was simply unacceptable. The accommodation was exceedingly basic, devoid of any of the comforts one might expect. The atmosphere was dark and dreary, with minimal lighting and tiny windows that barely let in any natural light. It felt more like a shelter than a quaint retreat in the beautiful Icelandic countryside.|The sleeping arrangements were no better; the small single beds were cramped. The bathroom was very small as well. As for the kitchen, calling it "badly equipped" would be an understatement. It was rudimentary at best — a couple of pans, a minuscule fridge, and the glaring absence of basic kitchen appliances such as a toaster or a coffee machine… Cooking felt more like a chore in the dark than a convenience. I reported it to the staff at the reception who explained that it was on purpose to live like in the old days. However, they do charge today’s prices and accept gladly modern ways of payment.|Overall, my stay at the guesthouse was far from the cozy and nostalgic experience that was advertised. Instead, it felt like a scam. If you are looking for a genuine and comfortable Icelandic experience, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. This guesthouse failed to deliver on its promise and left me feeling disappointed and dissatisfied. Save your money and seek out accommodations that offer true value...

We stayed here as part of our Intrepid tour.||||The guest house is located in a very isolated area - but he views were spectacular to say the least - the views over the mountains in the changing light - just magnificent.||||As a tour group were allocated a 2 story chalet building - it had 5 rooms - one on the ground floor and 4 on the first floor. Our room was the front room with the balcony.||||However there was one huge problem with chalet building - NO keys, security, lockable doors - nothing - the front door could open by any one at any time and the individual rooms had no locks on the doors - any one could have entered and taken anything - our tour group was surprised at this - total lack of security! Some of our tour group were not happy with this arrangement.||||There was also a comping ground at the rear of the property.||||The building had 5 rooms - and there was only 1 toilet and one shower on the ground floor for 10 people - which made it a bit of an issue for showers/toileting||||The ground floor had a fully functional kitchen if you wanted to self cater. There was also a large common room to sit and enjoy the views or watch TV - there was also a DVD player with selection of DVD's.||||We had the dinner at the guest house - a large and hearty meal ( I had the smoked lamb- YUM) and desert and drinks - all at a reasonable price considering the isolated location of the guest house||||Again we had dinner here - this was a continental style breakfast - but it had a large variety of foods for breakfast...
