Really enjoyed my experience here. My partner and I were worried we wouldn't find a place to eat as we finished up our hike quite late. In a frantic search we came across Gamla Fjósið which was about to close in 30 minute. Despite our last minute arrival the host welcomed and seated us right away.
The atmosphere was very home like and offered a warmth that was very much needed after a long hike on a rainy day. I ordered the Steinar-Steak sandwich. The bread was buttery, toasted and soft on the inside. Onions were sweet and caramelized and the steak was medium rare, tender and flavorful. The dish came with a side of season fries which were also very enjoyable.
My partner ordered the volcano soup. Now to be fair I must admit my partner is far from a soup person. She rarely asks for such a dish but felt it was necessary due to the cold weather. To her surprise she absolutely loved it. For a vegetable soup it was extremely hearty and had a bit of spice to it which added to the warming up she was looking for. The soup also came with a bread basket which accompanied the soup very well. I believe this experience has changed her thoughts on soup now.
All in all this was a very nice, cozy, quiet spot to grab late night dinner. And the chocolate cake was the cherry on top to a delicious evening, will absolutely be back on my next...

The volcano soup tasted like it was made from canned soup.. and then add veggies and beef.. and the bread that came with the soup was cold.. actually cold.. like outside temperature.. not inside room temperature
The cod…was made with frozen cod…. My first time in Iceland… but I was expecting fresh cod…. I guess that was just wishful thinking.. the potatoes that came with the cod dinner was sooooo hot.. cuz it was in the microwave sooooo long..
The steak sandwich… you need to eat with a knife and fork cuz the steak is sooo tough and chewy
The burger patties are really tasty!!!! For real pretty good! But the burger to bun ratio is not correct.. just look at all the pics from other ppl… the bun is enormous compared to the bun and the bun was not toasted before serving..
The fries… you could go to any supermarket and get frozen fries… put it in the air fryer and it will taste better.. basically.. it wasn’t fresh enough… the freshness of fries expire pretty quick
Maybe I just have high expectations.. but truth is truth.. canned soup, tough beef, frozen cod.....

Long review: My husband and I came in hoping to get a quick bite during dinner time as we were in a hurry. Unfortunately, we had just arrived shortly after a group of around 20 people and were worried that we were going to have to wait a long time to get our food. Rosa, one of the people working here, noticed our nervousness and took our orders to the kitchen while her colleague was still taking orders from the larger group, ensuring that we were able to get our food promptly.
We both got the Farmer’s burger and it did not disappoint! Medium and juicy meat with yummy mushrooms and caramelized onions on top. The fries were as crispy as can be and well seasoned.
Despite being the only place that is open for dinner in the area, thats not the only reason why you should visit. Come by and enjoy the tentative and service minded people here as well as a...
