How? Kaffihûs Bakkabrædra is more than just a coffee shop; it's an authentic and heartwarming Icelandic experience in the small town of Dalvík. Upon entering, you're immediately drawn into a cozy, museum-like atmosphere that feels like a trip back in time. The space is tastefully designed with two floors full of nostalgic items that characterize the area. From the second floor, the view of the sea is simply breathtaking. The service, provided by Gabor, the manager, was exceptionally warm and helpful. He offered great recommendations and shared interesting insights about the restaurant, the town, and the surrounding area.
What? The excellent fish soup deal was the perfect choice. The meal includes a bowl of rich fish soup with local, fresh fish chunks and herbs, a fresh salad, and delicious freshly baked beer bread with butter—all of which left me wanting more. The homemade bread was a refreshing and perfect addition. After the meal, you can help yourself to a complimentary filter coffee or tea, which was a lovely way to end the experience. The hospitality reached its peak when Gabor offered to refill my bowl of soup, just in case I was still hungry.
Bottom Line At 3,490 Icelandic krona, this is excellent value for money, especially considering Iceland is a pricey destination. This is an opportunity to experience high-quality local food in a unique atmosphere and enjoy genuine Icelandic hospitality. The place is a must-stop for anyone traveling in Dalvík or the nearby Akureyri area. In short, it’s not just a meal, but a recommended experience that's well worth the stop.

Read moreNice atmosphere and great service. We were greeted with a welcoming smile and a good selection of cakes and pies. We had an apple pie, cheese cake and a Belgian waffle. The apple pie was really juicy and tasty. No shortage of whipped cream on the side. The cheesecake was a bit too sweet for my taste but quite ok. The waffle was tasty and lots of jam (or chocolate) and whipped cream on the side. The staff was accommodating and brought butter for my butter loving son. The coffee had free refill and was served in beautiful retro cups. The atmosphere is lovely and you keep looking around and spotting something new. They also serve soup and alcohol and maybe more, but didn't pay attention to that. Everything was reasonably priced and worth the good...
Read moreThis place embodies everything I've ever wanted in a cafe. The fish soup we had for lunch is to die for, and you can tell that it is made fresh every day. The lady who makes the soup offered extra servings if we wanted, and oh boy we took her right up on the offer. Yum!! The homemade bread made with local beer is also delicious and is perfect with the soup. To top it off, salad is also included and super yummy. Tea, coffee and lemon water are included, too. The atmosphere is so cozy and delightful, I wish I could stay here forever. Best cafe/restaurant we've been to in Iceland, hands down. Lots of locals dining here too. Can't wait to come back on our next trip - it's...
