The buffet at Heima Bistro is made for workers from the port—men built like Vikings, broad-shouldered, their hunger as vast as the sea. The spread is simple, stripped of pretense: meatballs, fried fish balls, potatoes, a salad bar, and a gravy that clings to everything like a warm embrace.
The mushroom soup reminds me of the sauce in a Jollibee burger steak. If they served rice, I would have surrendered completely. The meatball—dense, rich, its origins unknown—lands heavy on the tongue, carrying with it the essence of whatever beast it came from. The fishball, crisp on the outside, releases a wave of salt and ocean when bitten into.
My companions ordered burgers fit for warriors. They arrived massive, burdened with thick, golden chips that stretched endlessly across the plate. I drank a fruit juice I couldn’t name, but it tasted familiar—sweet, a little sharp, unbothered by the world of mass production.
The coffee was nothing special, just filtered and warm, the kind that fills the spaces between conversations. A biscuit sat beside it, unassuming but necessary, like the punctuation at the end of a...
Read moreThis place is an hidden gem. The best fish and chips ever had in our life, with a crunchy, aromatic crust and the cod inside which was so fresh, as just taken out from the sea, which literally is. We have been here for two times consecutively because the food was just amazing. Also the starters, and the hamburgers were extraordinary. The one with garlic sauce mushroom and blue cheese, I believe was one of the best ever had in my life, also. The owners are extremely welcoming, friendly and so cheerful. They went the extra mile letting us taste some local delicacies which we hope they will introduce in the menu. Heima bistro is a must, if you pass by this little fishing town, but honestly I would recommend anyone in the area of Selfoss and the south coast to stop by or to have a drive and intentionally visit this place. We will definitely remember and it will be our first choice when we will come to Iceland again! Thank you guys for...
Read moreWe 🚙stumbled upon this place randomly during our trip to the Grindavik Volcano area🌋. Based on other positive reviews about the food, we decided to give it a try… At first, we were a bit unsure, as the bistro looked a little abandoned🏚️ and was completely empty, even though it was lunchtime! 😅 However, the moment we stepped inside, all our doubts disappeared. We were warmly welcomed by the staff right away. 😊
We ordered four servings of fish and chips, and let me tell you, it was the best meal we had during our two-week stay in Iceland! 🐟🍟 The taste, texture, and smell – everything was absolutely top-notch, and we enjoyed every single bite!
Highly recommend...
