A Tranquil Culinary Oasis - Hygge at Hellishólar, Iceland
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
I recently had the pleasure of dining at the charming Hygge restaurant located in the picturesque Hellishólar region of Iceland, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience that left me with a warm and contented heart.
The first thing that struck me was the breathtaking surroundings. The restaurant is nestled amidst the stunning natural beauty of Hellishólar, offering breathtaking views of Iceland's picturesque landscape. The serene atmosphere alone was enough to set the stage for a memorable dining journey.
From the moment I stepped foot into the restaurant, I was enveloped by a sense of coziness and tranquility that perfectly embodies the essence of "hygge." The attentive and friendly staff warmly greeted me, making me feel like an honored guest.
The menu at Hygge is a delightful fusion of Icelandic and international cuisine, showcasing the freshest local ingredients. Every dish was a masterpiece of flavors and creativity, leaving me in awe of the culinary expertise of the chefs.
The culinary adventure began with a diverse and enticing menu. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared and presented with artistic flair. The locally sourced ingredients were a testament to the chef's commitment to delivering authentic Icelandic flavors with a contemporary twist.
The starters were a perfect blend of freshness and creativity. As a seafood enthusiast, I opted for the pan-seared Arctic char for my main course, and it was a true revelation. The fish was cooked to perfection, tender and flaky, complemented by a delectable sauce that accentuated the natural flavors. The accompanying seasonal vegetables were a delightful surprise, and the portion size was just right.
The dining experience was enhanced by the impeccable service provided by the staff at Hygge. They were attentive, friendly, and well-informed, ensuring that every need was met with a smile. They also added a personal touch by sharing stories about the local ingredients and the inspiration behind some of the dishes, making the meal feel even more special.
To end the evening on a sweet note, I indulged in their signature dessert, the Skyr parfait drizzled with wild berry compote. It was a heavenly concoction that perfectly balanced sweetness with the tanginess of Skyr—a delightful way to conclude a remarkable dining experience.
If you find yourself in Iceland, make sure to visit Hygge at Hellishólar. It is a place where the beauty of nature meets culinary artistry, and where the feeling of hygge embraces you like a comforting embrace. Trust me, this dining gem is not to be missed, and it will leave you with cherished memories that will linger long after you leave its...

We’re travelling through Iceland and had dinner at this restaurant a few days ago. We both enjoyed the delicious dishes and had a lovely time! It seemed to us that the chef(s) and kitchen staff knew exactly what they were doing! The food here tasted so much better than food that we‘ve had at other “fancy-shmancy“ restaurants. So: Hats off to the chef! Thank you to the team of the Hygge Restaurant & Bar for the delicious food.

Read moreWe looked for a good dining experience near Iceland's "golden circle" during our tour of the island, heading from north to south. We decided to take a small detour to try this restaurant, mostly based on it's generally positive reviews. That was certainly a good decision! The reviews were accurate, excellent food and good atmosphere. Surprising, in a restaurant well off the main road and with a camping site next door. One wouldn't expect great quality food, but here we are (I'm writing this while still in the restaurant, after two starters and the main course - about to order desert). Everything so far was excellent: mushroom soup - fantastic, carppacio - boring choice by us but they made it interesting and excellent with their additions - arctic char Thai style, and lamb made to perfection. All this with a nice bottle of Italian wine. Iceland is an expensive place, this restaurant is not cheap but not as crazy as many other places, and for the quality of the food certainly worth it. All in all,...
