This is a historic farmhouse turned coffeehouse and heritage stop along Route 61 around 53km southeast of Isafjordur and around 1 km past the Seal Lookout that makes for a nice driving break in this area of the Westfjords.
Litlibær seems to be open from 10am to 5pm daily (June 2025). There is parking alongside the road. The interior includes two small rooms decorated with old furniture. There is an upstairs area as well that serves as a makeshift gallery of additional antiques and artefacts from the past.
The menu is very simple at Litlibær. They have a few different dessert options and a couple of savoury sandwich likes items to go along with coffee & tea. Service is very friendly and prices fine for what is served.
We really liked our brief stop at Litlibær. It is great that they have found ways to preserve historic properties like this and repurpose them into roadside cafes which are very much needed to help breakup long drives in places like the Westfjords. Would gladly stop by for another visit next...

We were here two years ago, and this one particular place is still one of our favorite memories of the whole trip.
If I recall correctly, it was originally started as a place where ships coming in off the ocean might stop for some supplies. I have a vague memory of reading that they'd sometimes pay in solid gold coin.
Regardless, the coffee here is delicious, the waffles live up to the hype, the sod roof makes it all quite a bit more endearing, and the people running this place were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Well worth a stop while driving through this beautiful and rugged part of the country.
Edit just to say it's 7 years later now, and when my friends said they were going to Iceland, this is the one place I had to...
Read moreLoved this place! It's an adorable house and the hosts were so friendly and smiley. I haven't run across such friendly people in Iceland much. I felt like I was visiting a friend's grandparents for coffee and waffles. Price was 1200 isk for coffee and waffle with whipped cream and homemade jam. You can walk around the place and even upstairs. Was sort of like a tiny museum. Totally worth it. If you don't want to buy food for some reason, you can use their bathroom for 200isk. They take credit card, but she was having problems with it so I just paid with cash. They have a box set up down the road by where the seals are, with samples of their jam for sale, 1000 isk each and binoculars for you to use to watch the seals. Ps they had a cute dog too which loved to...
