We went to the Westfjords on a whim at the end of our summer ring road tour. After a magical day of driving through remote places and stumbling upon one of the only open restaurants available, I had no expectations. However, if I had had the highest expectations I still think I would have been blown away. We started with a few pieces of seedy bread with a traditional whipped Icelandic butter, topped with a licorice sea salt. Then we had the Ling “fish of the day” a slab of buttery, flakey mild white fish crusted in almonds and pan fried. Our waitress was perfect: attentive, kind and very warm the whole meal, and happy to show me which fish we were eating on a poster of local fish. The sautéed veggies were crisp and burst with flavor. We also had a sandwich called Bóndasæla which was apt, as it means husband pleasure/happiness, and we had gotten engaged earlier that day:). It was also a rich, melt in your mouth experience with bernaise sauce, date, bacon, roast beef, skinny French fries, warmed. Can’t speak highly enough, coming from South Louisiana I am very critical of seafood: I have trout almondine eaten within a day of catching it a couple times a month: this held its own! An absolutely perfect ending to a day I was already never going to...

To be the cooles guests at any location at the age of 45 is a rare occasion, but obviously the staff at this place trusted us to have quite a good taste in music. But let me save that story for later. We happened to come to this place twice during our road trip, and it was really an oasis of delicious food in our desert of roadside fast food since we left Reykjavik some days ago. I had the lamb on one night and the fish of the day the other night. Both dishes were excellent. The cod served as panfish was amongst the best fish I ever had. Desert was homemade cake and what can I say? It was perfect. The service team was really nice and obviously had a lot of work to do in this small space. The second night they introduced us to a tradition: At 9PM the guests sitting closest to the kitchen are supposed to choose a song. We went with Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden. Just to find out this tradition never existed and the guys just made up some story to find inspiration for their playlist. They thought we might have a good taste in music. It flattered us and possibly added up to this 5...

This was a cute place with a small, but adquate Icelandic menu. The food was good, but I wouldn't say it was outstanding. There were a lot of desserts though, so if you have a sweet tooth, you might want to take a look at the dessert case to decide whether you want to have something before ordering your main meal! The other thing about this place is that it was literally the ONLY PLACE to get food within hours of driving. We stopped in a bar and talked to a guy who told us that he would start serving burgers around 6 (this was about 3:30). He said even the N1 gas station closed about a week ago and might open again in three weeks or so (WHAT?!?). It was September 1st, so we weren't really expecting to be that far outside tourist season. We still had about an hour and a half to go in the opposite direction of additional food possibilities, so figured we needed to find something before then. He pointed us here as really the only option. For a place that's the last resort, we got pretty lucky! I'd definitely...

This restaurant is excellent, and I highly recommend you eat here. Our group came for dinner on our second evening in Iceland and the meal exceeded our expectations. Some in our group got sandwiches and salads, which were reportedly great. And then three of us ordered the fish of the day, which was a light salted cod with mashed sweet potatoes, celery root and tomato saffron sauce. And I must say: this is quite possibly the best fish I've ever eaten. I'll never forget it. The fish was cooked to perfection and the flavors were absolutely amazing. Apart from the unparalleled food, the setting and service are stellar. They took GREAT care of us! At the end of the meal, we asked the chef to come out and we showered him with applause and praise. He told us that the cod came from the fjord that we were looking over during our meal. Incredible.

Stúkuhúsið is a great little restaurant in Patreksfjörður. They have a fair-sized indoor seating area and outdoor tables as well. Menu features Icelandic cuisine and opening hours are 11am to 10pm (weekdays) and 12pm to 10pm (weekends). We had two excellent, back-to-back, lunches here recently. On both occasions we had the lamb fillet which was well seasoned, perfectly prepared at medium rare. It was the best lamb we had in Iceland by a long shot during both lunches. We had cod and halibut as well, both times excellently prepared in the kitchen. Dishes were presentable and tasted delicious. Meringue dessert and coffees were very good as well. Service friendly and timely, prices very reasonable for the portion size and quality of dishes served. Would gladly return to dine here again if we are ever in Patreksfjörður again.

My wife and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner. We started with a delicious fish soup followed by baked cod and grilled lamb filet for entrees. Both were perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The lamb was the best lamb dish I have ever eaten. We finished our meal with chocolate cake and rhubarb pie. They were also both delicious. They had several other dessert choices and they are known for their wonderful cakes. They have good selection of wines, spirits and other beverages. The service was excellent too. Their prices are very reasonable and would be comparable to what we would pay in the US if we included a tip.Tipping is not normally done in Iceland. Reservations are recommended as this is a very popular place.
