Life saving crispy dosas and tasty Andhra meals! Sarmila hotel is located opposite to the point where the small approach road of Belum caves meets the tarred Tadipatri road. It is run by a family from their home itself, offering simple but tasty South Indian food. We reached Belum caves at 10am and found that AP tourism had no good restaurant there. Their lone snacks bar was very basic - offering only tea, coffee and ice cream. We were very hungry and disappointed and many of us got into in a bad mood. We had seen Sarmila Hotel while entering the approach road so we drove back and entered it. The breakfast options were limited - dosa(filled with potato sabji and served with red and green chutney) and puliyogare. We all ordered dosas which were served to us hot from the tava, crispy and tasty - the potato sabji inside was just okay, but both the chutneys were tasty! We liked the first round of dosas and so ordered more. They were attentive and quick in serving us again. The kitchen was neat and clean too. My friends all ordered coffee while leaving and I remember everyone praising it a lot!
Since we liked the food, we gave our order for lunch and came back here at 2pm. By then the sun was way up and there was no shade outside the kitchen, so they pulled the chairs in the kitchen itself and let us sit and eat there. A strong cool breeze from the back door of the kitchen cooled us down in no time. They had option of non-vegetarian food for lunch too, but we all opted to eat vegetarian meals due to the extreme heat. Lunch was the famous Andhra pappu( spicy but tasty), some spicy potato sabji ( which was fun to eat), maida roti(not so great), white rice, sambhar (good flavor), rasam, papad and pickle. They made omlettes for us too which were just okay. We ended off with curd ( which was surprisingly thick and very creamy. For me, this was the best part – eating the curd rice). Considering this isolated area and the very limited Snacks bar in Belum caves, this is a very good option for having a tasty, satisfying meal. Breakfast for 12 people: Rs. 300. Lunch for 12 people (unlimited meals) : Rs. 915. Tip: Order lunch in advance in morning if in a big group, as they will not keep lunch ready without orders. And don't forget to try out...
