Aioli is a place filled with surprises. Mostly bad and overall just downright disappointing. This is a brutally honest review and I'm sure there's scope for improvement if the management takes this seriously.
Here is why they deserve this rating. Don't ever take the average paying customer lightly.
As we entered, the manager just looked at us with a poker face as we entered and instead the staff showed us to our table. The manager still was just walking in and out of the restaurant all this while and we kept wondering why he wouldn't even acknowledge customers. More on him at the end.
FOOD: Once you get past the charred flavour, you realise this is not continental at all. Whatever we ordered was localized to Indian tastes giving the whole menu an identity crisis. Here is what is even more important to know — PRICES ARE OUTRAGEOUS! We ordered the Shish Taouk and that was the only saving grace. The Aioli Grilled Prawns was thoroughly disappointing with the tiniest prawns I've ever seen being used. 6-8 of them whereas we were promised medium sized prawns. The rest of the bowl was filled with salad and sauce. The lamb in the lamb Chikoori was limited to the size of a side of mayo that's served with their dishes. The lamb was stringy and had too much of skin on it and barely 3 or 4 tiny shreds of meat that were less than the size of soya chunks. They have a habit of filling up the plate with a ton of Salad, nearly double the quantity of the meat. Yes, that's how poorly plated it is. This was incredibly substandard for continental standards – whereas prices charged were wayy above premium with respect to the location, ambience, food and service.
Coming back to the manager. This man was so judgemental and discriminated between customers so blatantly, I was just fuming toward the end of our meal. I'm a die-hard Patriot and come from a family with a long line of service to the Indian flag that believes in treating everyone equally. This man would go head over heels everytime someone he recognised entered the place and completely ignored the other customers who were only tended to by what seemed like the bar staff. Even when he was close, he would wave the staff to tend to us. But not for his "esteemed" customers. He would hang around them or stand outside the restaurant almost the entire time. We all understand regulars get preference but don't rub it in our faces, man! Prices seem wayy too inflated and the food and ambience seem way too sub-par to be taken seriously. Will honestly never visit again, except maybe to try the Pizza everyone raves so much about. Even then, the whole experience would make me think twice about ever wanting to look...
Read moreAioli and I have known each other for about eight years now. It is my go-to place whenever it comes to please my tummy with some restaurant food that is guilt free yet yummy. A relationship of eight years and yet I never happened to pen down my review caught me by a surprise today. So here it is…an honest review about my experience with Aioli. I came to know about Aioli back in 2013 and since then I have been a regular. Starting with food, the menu is not too elaborate to confuse their customers. It is just about the right size to delight one’s appetite. I have always believed in “Quality over Quantity” and Aioli is the best fitted example for Quality food. The food served is conscious. Every plate has a generous proportion that also takes care of the 50/25/25 Plate Rule. How smart is that! Now, is it only good food that we look for? I guess no. We crave for hospitality. It feels so good to see the same faces taking your order, serving your food, and wishing you a great day for the last eight years. To me, this means a lot. It not only establishes the bonding between the staff but also highlights the kind of restaurant manager/owner they are working with. The pandemic hit us hard, and was very harsh to the hospitality industry. Yet indeed, it was so nice to see the same faces at Aioli even during pandemic. The humble décor in the residential area is comfortable and homely. It is just like eating lunch or dinner with your friends and family in your own patio. When I turned vegan, it was challenging to explain to the other restaurant managers or chefs as the options were limited however, I never faced the same at Aioli. I explored each and every dish under Vegetarian course in vegan style. The understanding and flexibility of the chef is something I must appreciate. To conclude, I personally recommend you to at least pay a visit to Aioli and try the food out there. I guarantee you; it will not be a disappointment. P.S. They make the best hummus in Bangalore apart from their other...
