If you love great coffee and good food, Alma is your best bet in Noida. But then there is no guarantee that you will always be served what you order. I love the place and want it to thrive but personally I will be reluctant to go back there ever again. Confused? Read on
Exhibit A Ordered avocado toast and coffee. My friend ordered omelette and coffee. We wait for 30 mins (the cafe is not even half full), the omelette appears along with a shocker - "we don't have avocado toast". At this point, I am starving, but no apology, no alternative offered. The waiter walks off. Nearly 45 minutes wasted and I didn't get to eat. The I pick something else but again to be told the same thing - sir, ye bhi nahi hai.
Most of the waiters have no clue about their own menu. When we point out things, they seem shocked with the expression that says - "accha, hamare yahan ye bhi milta hai, hume to pata hi nahi tha".
Exhibit B We went again and this time I ordered a dish with couscous, but it came after 40 mins (again the cafe is less than full) with a bed of mashed potatoes. I say I didn't order this. Reply from the manager: "Sorry, we don't have khus khus, so you have to eat this." Me: "Why didn't you tell me earlier". Reply: silence, no apology, no effort to offer me something else. At this point, I have spent an hour without getting my lunch. My wife ordered a croissant and she asked for butter. She was told it would be chargeable. It's not the usual practice of restaurants to charge for butter and ketchup etc. But whatever, we said bring it. Around15 mins pass, but there is no sign of the butter. I go the manager again, he triumphantly tells me that it was delivered to your table and calls the waiter to tell me how big a moron I was to question him again. But the waiter tells him he forgot and gave it to some other table. At this point, both the manager and I have the same exasperated look - we finally agree on something!
Exhibit C Another day, another Alma story. You may wonder why we went back to the place. It's because we really like the food and the place and wanted to give it another chance. We ordered an omlette with brown bread - as mentioned in the menu. But it comes to the table with white bread. When we asked, they again replied that there was no brown bread. But we could see it in their bakery - really lovely looking brown loafs!. Then we are told that the bakery is a separate entity. Ummm - not really, it's the same. But that's not the point, if they don't have something, they should inform the customer at the time of taking the order.
I hope they train their staff and become better. It's a great place and is doing well, but won't last long if their service continues to...
Read moreI've been to Alma since the day it has opened, like any other new cafe, they always start from somewhere, so did Alma. The owner knew that the food might lack something in the beginning and was extremely positive about it. He always took feedback seriously, with a smile, showing attributes of a true chef. The food now, and i can vouch for it, has gotten 10 times better than what it was initially.
I cannot stress this enough when I say how much I love their Bakery, I will get all kinds of bread, croissants, and dessert here. Get your birthday cakes ordered from here, the cakes here are a class apart. I can buy anything from the bakery and I know it's gonna be incredibly good. They have a vast collection of cheese, seasonings, jams, coffees and a lot of other things. It's a MUST visit.
You cannot resist the cafe at Alma, if you visit the bakery, you need to visit the cafe too. The pizzas have me sold out, what fine quality dough, the marinara sauce has the perfect tangy flavour and their cheese is so incredibly fresh. I love the snacks at Alma, the wedges, chicken strips, fish fingers or even fries are super super good. The taste and quality of food is great here. They have a lovely share of beverages here, although I'm not a shakes person, i was willing to give a try to their chocolate shake and I LOVED IT. Their cooler beverages are amazing too. I personally think their hot coffees are made to have in the winter.
The setup and the ambiance is so pretty, I can sit here doing my work all day. It gives a very homely vibe with all the books, the plants, the warm lights and the great service.
Although Alma is a little expensive, the food, ambience and the service is great. I would 100% recommend...
Read moreAug 13th. Order food at 8.50 pm and now it's 09.23 pm. It's been more than 30 mins and no sign of even a single item out of the 4 items we ordered. The waiter gave his word that it will be there by 9.21 by the watch. Alas, can't kept his promise.
9.25 pm - one of the item Turkish chicken kebab has been served.
9.30 pm - now going to chase the waiter for the remaining 3 dishes. Now spoke with 2 of the waiters and none of them can give me a concrete timeline. Seriously, it seems there is just one chef in the kitchen.
9.35 - delivered Panazella prawns ( it had dead mosquito in it) returned it as can't wait another 30 mins for it.
9.40 still waiting for our 2 main course dishes - as you must have guessed. This is our first and last visit. Thanks Alma for the lovely hospitality.
9.42 pan seared chicken arrived. As a surprise in main course I see only one chicken breast. Price and quantity doesn't go hand in hand.
09.50 finally the manager came to apologize for the mosquito in the prawns and offered a replacement. Denied it!
9.51 - Woody chicken leg came. Along with that I asked for bill to which I paid while finishing my meal.
Request - going forward at least serve the Main course dishes together so two people can eat together. In our case my wife finished her meal and then I started. What's the point of dining if we can't eat together.
Pathetic service - we spent more than an hour to...
