TL;DR: 10/10
So there's this gem of a place in the sleepy by lanes of Betalbatim that claims to be a restaurant but I digress.
I needed to see what the fuss was about so made a prior reservation for a table for 4 and we were glad we did it. That place is packed to the brim.
It's not a restaurant like any other in Goa where you go and place your order and you get the food served. This is one of those places wherein we had visits(3) from the different owners enquiring about our evening and if there's anything that we need or any feedback. Something that happened to me for the first time ever in Goa.
The wait staff that I had was a jovial bloke who knew the menu like the back of his hand and also recommended us some items as we asked him to surprise us and boy he didn't let us down.
The dishes come in and OMG the squids stuffed with sausages is the signature dish that any Goan true to his soil will definitely relish and imitate it once atleast at his/her kitchen. Finger licking good we said.. 2 servings of that fantasy, moving on to the next one that was a dish of prawns for our 3rd starter which was amazingly dipped in glorious sauces of sweet, sour and ever so slight tinge of spiciness. That was relished in a jiffy by our hungry pangs. Moving on to the mains we ordered the prawn jalfrezi and prawn masala. Guess what was revealed in the holy book(menu) a friggin naan bread stuffed with goan sausages and wr thought to ourselves our night aint gonna get better. So ordered a couple of baskets of that. Were we disappointed ? hell no. It was a different kinda feeling of that doughy bread mixed with the bits of sausages. The gravies were mouth wateringly amazing, amongst the 2 I'd rate the jalfrezi the top as it had flavours that bursted in the palate as opposed to the prawn masala which as per me was a bit bland for my taste.
The final intervention that happened was my mates ordered the famous of every Goan a bangdo recheado, a Goan can never change. The rest is history. The plates of the fish were long gone before I got to snap a picture but I snapped it nonetheless. The recheado masala reminded me of my granny's recipe with the right amount of sweetness and the vinegar and also the right amount of visual cues(dark red color) that accompanies a recheado masala.
No drinks you say??? They do have them, a well stocked bar!
Not every establishment or an individual is perfect and this is where lies the fault in this restaurant, the poison counter. I aint gonna talk about the whiskeys or the beers as the taste can't be changed and it's dependent upon specific individuals. I ordered the long Island iced tea and well it wasn't close to the ones I'd savoured before, there was a huge aftertaste of rum, so downed that and went on to order the mojito expecting it to be the usual, alas it wasn't. It had a huge overpowering taste of lemon with no sweetness or a bit of saltines accompanying it. Minor quirms but make sure you make the drinks(mocktails/cocktails) consistent.
Our first time to this place and it's aces in my books.
Visited today for the second time with family of 8 and boy the food's amazing as before.
Sharif, Queeny, the couple who takes care of the patrons as they're family and not customers.
Edia the mum and the life force of the place who is a genuine human who runs the place with her magic of the cooking sauces.
Thanks to everyone for accommodating us and will definitely visit you again.
Thanks goes out to Dylan our waiting staff who was amazing and I highly recommend to approach him as he's the only waiting staff who knows the menu.
Sorry for the long post, this restaurant deserved it.
Just a request. I'd suggest the owners to reply to the reviews to get more engagement and make the reviewees feel a bit...

Read moreThis place was on the bucket list from 2 years now. We passed by it atleast 10 times but never got in for one or other reason. Even used the outside as meeting point 2 times :) as it is known place Anyways, went here in early Oct and was not a great experience. It didnt live up to the hype for us.
FOOD- Some hits and some misses. Cotacozinha special Chicken - was really good - cheesy They seem to have good tandoor chef- i think it is because of name of late and number of tourists stopping by. The tikka masala and naan was good. Although Cheese garlic naan is very overly priced to what is served- i wont recommend it. -ve - Somehow, being so highly rated for local cuisine, the number of dishes are limited- and one of highly rates Goan Sausage fry was not at all at level of any place I ate. Chewy , had to take out residue in every bite, not well cooked, - I will avoid.
SERVICE- This is what was biggest let down. Didnt feel any warmth with any staff member. Almost every staff member / server was walking like zombie, least interested to suggest or even take follow up order to refill tissues, change plates. Either they are over worked , Not motivated or trained to keep blank face and not smile ever. I have never seen a place where every server has same expression of aloofness - Maybe we chose the bad day when their annual appraisal happened earlier in day
OTHERS- +ve= Big parking space - not many places you will find this. Ambience - nothing to mention separately Value for Money - Not cheap and some dishes are priced more than what they deserve. They serve Urrak even in oct- Genuine Goan places know Urrak season ends by May at max. I am not sure if they store in plastic bottles or glass one- hope it is atleast glass Menu card - were smelling real bad as if they are never shown light and kept in damp places in nights ... smelling like old food residue aging on them . big turn off as you need to touch it so many times to order.
OVERALL- I find more genuine goan places or more genuine Continental places in South Goa. Not worth the hype as per us and I will avoid it. Tandoori items are really good which you dont get...
