Mafia Cocktail easily tops my list of favorite restaurants in Goa, and possibly even in India. It's a hidden gem, tucked away from tourists, and I almost feel guilty for sharing this secret. The dishes we usually order include Chonak Fry, Mussel Fry, Prawn Curry Rice, Tongue Roast, Gigantic Potato Fries, and Goan Choris. The talented cooks behind these flavorsome delights are usually Tony or his sister Lynn. The restaurant has a nostalgic ambiance, giving you the sense of dining in someone's home—an upcycled garage adorned with antiques and the occasional presence of curious cats and dogs. There's no fixed menu, prices, daily specials, or overly fussy chefs obsessed with ingredients. It's simply a humble brother and sister duo cooking homestyle recipes. The staff may appear a bit absent-minded, but they are attentive to your needs and take their time to serve you piping hot food straight from the stove. Payments can be made via UPI or cash, and they offer Urak and Beers. If you're seeking a tranquil meal with friends, free from the chaos and noise of tourist-filled spots, Mafia Cocktail is the perfect choice. Vegetarian options may be limited, though. The journey to this restaurant is as fascinating as the place itself, passing through lush green fields that transport you to a village far away from the pretentiousness and exorbitant prices of beach shacks and influencer-infested areas like Parra Road. Visit Mafia Cocktail for a meal, a unique vibe, and an oddly charming experience that cannot be matched anywhere...
Read moreThe food is authentic goan !! This is not your high end restaurant and at 1 pm it seemed like they had not opened yet with a couple of locals on one table. (Which was perfect for me!) It's also not your regular menu style restaurant either: at least we did not get a menu. We walked in, asked what they had to eat. The owner advised there were some pawns and fish to cook and there was beef tounge and goa sausages We asked for the fish and prawns fried and also the sausages and beef.
It was all as authentic as it gets: fried fish and tiger prawns in a rawa and malsala batter! The sausages and beef went perfectly with the fresh and hot powie goan bread. In true goan fashion it was all washed down with some drinks which included the famous goan urrak! My authentic goan meal on this trip could not be more complete!
Note: I was told this place in the night takes on a very different happening party vibe and sometimes the place is open until the wee hrs of...
Read moreDimly lit Mafia cocktail in Pilerne has great local Goan food, cheap drinks and is a good place to enjoy friendly conversations. They may mix up your order, forget to bring your items to the table and have the cooks and waiters squabbling among themselves, but it's all part of the charm.
The beef tongue and xinaneos, fried prawns and seafood is delightful! Their massive french fries can feed an army. Choris sausages are really well balanced but needed a lot more cook time. Urrak is cheap and lime soda is good! Avoid the bland bebinca and opt for the Serra Dura instead. They also have prawn pulao, which I haven't tried yet. Order everything at once or it will take time to arrive. And double check your bill (triple check it if you've had a few drinks) because you'll invariably find items from another table on it. Still rating it a 5-stars because like I said, all part...
