I am one of those people who goes to a restaurant and likes to either edit or add to my dish as per my taste buds. My travels in Goa took me to the Reis Margos fort in Verem, a must visit while in Goa. Beats the sad excuse for a fort shown in Dil Chahta Hai. Exhausted and hungry with all the walking that I did led me to look out for the first place to eat nearest to the fort. To my luck Mike’s place is just one of those places, relaxed, easy going and excellent food. I must say that it took time for my thali to come but my expectations were managed by the owner Orlando. Would have been a non issue if I were to polish off 2-3 pints while I was waiting but since it’s lent settled for a fresh lime soda. Orlando comes from a background of working with Indian and international hotel chains and that shows in his hospitality. I ordered a simple surmai thali but also felt like having prawns and that was also accommodated in my thali as a special request albeit at an additional cost which i was told about and I didn’t mind at all. Having had thalis all across I enjoyed this one and would rate it as one of the top 3 I’ve had in Goa. The yellow curry with bangda was off the hook, the veg bendi was lovely, and the prawns that I asked them to edit by marinating with rechardo masala and lime, sprinkled with its rawa and deep fried for not more than 2 - 3 minutes was also a melt in your mouth moment.
All in all a lovely meal and the sleep I got later was testimony to that. All the best Orlando and wish you all...
Read moreWanted to try out this restaurant in Verem, Reis Magos. Unfortunately, had a sub par experience. Service: Staff are poorly trained, and not knowledgeable. Took 15 mins to come to our table to take our Order. Observed Ants roaming freely on the table. Snacks: 1.Bombay Duck rava fried - a disaster!. Subsequently was told that the stock was 7 days old!. So it was fried in small pieces, & very crispy to mask the taste. Prawns rava fried - okay. Squids butter garlic - too creamy, inspite of prior instructions to avoid creamy. Was told that Fish is purchased in Bulk! - so will leave the implications of Freshness to the Review readers. Entrée: based on poor experience with the Starters, avoided the main course. The fish served here severely lacks freshness!!. Note: Alcohol here is priced weirdly: cheaper in small pegs than ordering a Large!! Overall, had a ...
Read moreOne of the coziest joints for those who want to feel like home and miss homemade goan food. Recommended by one of the friends, we decided to check out this place and we were not disappointed. 😁 The ambience is simple and makes you feel home. Mr. Orlando, the owner is so very welcoming and friendly. Such a down to earth person. His wife also is very nice and polite. Food is so very tasty and reasonably priced, one may get confused that he/she is eating in South Goa. Each item we had was delicious, specially kismoor and cafreal. I have not eaten these two dishes prepared this particular way in any restaurant in Goa. Both are must try ! 😃 Bottom line is - It's a must try joint for those who appreciate taste than...
