There are several brands which serve locho in Gujarat but they say that it originated in Surat which is where we had it during our short visit to the city. Locho is made from gram flour.. they grind it to a fine paste and then steam it. I don’t know the process how they make it but its then topped with several chutneys and farsan (namkeen) and it is damn tasty. It makes for a breakfast dish which is incredibly light despite being loaded with either cheese or butter or oil (they have several varieties) if you’re trying locho for the first time, I suggest you to go for either the butter locho or the cheese locho. They make it fresh everyday and a lot of people have it so you’ll get the freshest preparations for sure. It’s a must have when in the city and Jaani locho and khaman house serve some really amazing locho and khaman. I’m a fan now and will definitely recommend everyone I know to try locho whenever they’re visiting.
