I recently had the pleasure of dining at Jalaram Kathiyawadi, a restaurant well-regarded for its authentic Kathiyawadi cuisine. It is an excellent spot to visit with family and friends, offering a warm and inviting ambiance that instantly makes you feel at home. The decor is tasteful and reflects traditional elements, adding to the overall dining experience.

However, my visit fell on a Sunday, a peak time for the restaurant, and the waiting time was quite lengthy. We had to wait around half an hour just to get our names on the list. Once our turn came, there was an additional one-hour wait before we were finally seated. This extended waiting period was somewhat frustrating, especially with a hungry family in tow.

When it came to the service, it was clear that the staff was overwhelmed by the weekend rush. The usually attentive service was lacking that day. We experienced slow response times and had to wait quite a while for our orders to be taken and served. Despite the delays, the staff remained courteous and did their best under the circumstances, but it was evident that they were struggling to keep up with the high demand.

On a positive note, once the food arrived, it did not disappoint. The dishes were flavorful, well-prepared, and true to the Kathiyawadi tradition. From the spicy curries to the fresh roti, every item was delicious and met our expectations in terms of taste and quality.

Thakkars Hotel Jalaram Kathiyawadi restaurant is located on Causeway Road, opposite D Mart, Surat. The restaurant is very big and at a time many customers can have their food. It is very well ventilated, too. They have two types of sitting AC and non-AC. Once you reach there, you need to book your seats at the counter and tell them your choice. Parking has to be done in the next plot available besides the restaurant. They also have lawn space for small parties. The embance is very good. There is amusement play for small kids. The menu is full of various dishes of India. You may only miss Pav Bhaji here as it is not available. I enjoyed gujarati and Punjabi food, and the taste was very good. We ordered Fafda, Idada, and Patis. Despite being the only customers at the time, our order took around 10 minutes to arrive. While the wait time may seem acceptable, it appeared that the delay was due to reheating the kadhi, and the fafda served was not fresh and hot as expected—it seemed to be from a pre-stocked batch.

Additionally, they didn’t have Patis available, which we were only informed about after placing the order. The staff was reluctant to refund the amount and instead insisted we choose something else. Ideally, item availability should be confirmed before taking the order.
