Udupiwala — Restaurant in Haldwani

We visited a South Indian restaurant in the evening, eager to indulge in some delicious dosas with our family. Given our familiarity with South Indian cuisine, we knew exactly what to expect in terms of taste.

Upon arrival at 8 PM, we were pleased to find that the restaurant wasn't too crowded, with plenty of seats available for dining. We ordered a selection of plain dosa, idli, vada, and sweet corn soup.

However, the service was a major letdown. Despite the relatively low crowd, it took an astonishing 20-30 minutes to serve our plain dosa. Considering we can whip up dosas at home in just a few minutes, the wait seemed excessive.

Moving on to the food, the dosa was enjoyable, accompanied by flavorful chutney and sambar. The vada and idli were also satisfactory. Unfortunately, the sweet corn soup was a major disappointment – it was subpar, to say the least. We brought this to the attention of the staff, but it seemed like they didn't take our feedback seriously.

Overall, while the south indian food was mostly good, the service fell short of our expectations.

Sick of eating South Indian food at various eateries, went back to Udipiwala. Experience as under : Quite packed as it was lunch time. Decided on our orders and had them taken pronto. Masala Dosa's ordered were served in under 5 minutes. The Dosa Crust, the Sambhar, the red chutney and the Coconut chutney were all excellent. In fact , extra Sambhar and Coconut chutney were provided without even asking. The filling couldn't have been better. Normal water replaced by cold and cokes provided in a jiffy. The ushers were very systematic and helpful. Getting parking in the height of the season is an accomplishment. An altogether great satiating experience for food and excellent service. P.S. : If you prefer a particular cuisine, it's better to stick to the tried and tested ones rather than ruminate on one's folly by reading a review.

Udupiwala has been a staple for serving authentic South Indian delicacies in this region . Located right before you enter the kumaon mountain ranges near kathgodam this restaurant has all the South Indian delicacies one can imagine ! There is indeed a timeless rustic charm about this restaurant , although the interiors are not fancy but it is very practical and can cater to heavy crowds in a a very efficient manner ! I had ordered for a set dosa , the meal comprised of 3 dosas rich in batter along with vegetable korma , sambhar and the combination of tomato , mint and coconut chutneys . To gulp it down I opted for the timeless classic "Filter coffee"

Although I arrived very early , the service was prompt and very smooth .

The meal here made me almost nostalgic and took me back to my days when I was a student in Chennai !!

Fantastic experience would definitely return someday !!
