MS Mandi & Shawarma restaurant in Purani Haveli was temporarily shut down by the GHMC after 19 people who consumed chicken at the eatery fell ill and had to be admitted to a Nallakunta hospital.

The action came after one of the victims, Sheik Shoeb, 24, filed a complaint with the police.

In his complaint, Shoeb said he and a friend, Arbaz Khan, both residents of Yakutpura, had ordered the ‘chicken mandi’ dish on November 16, following which he suffered severe stomach ache coupled with nausea the next day. He was admitted to a private hospital and diagnosed with food poisoning.

R. Ravinder, inspector of Mir Chowk Police Station, where the complaint was lodged, said: "We are getting several complaints about food poisoning and we are taking appropriate action, in coordination with the GHMC’s food safety wing."

GHMC officials said they inspected the eatery based on the police complaint.

"We have sent seven food samples to the State Food Laboratory in Nacharam, which include the ‘chicken mandi’ and ‘eggless mayonnaise’ dishes. Further action will be taken based on the reports," said Shiraaz, GHMC’s food safety officer for the Falaknuma circle.

Another GHMC official, who visited the eatery, said the fridge and a portion of the kitchen were found to be unhygienic. "The chicken used in ‘mandi’ was not stale, but we found the fridge and a portion of the kitchen in an unhygienic condition," the GHMC official said.

Have been a regular customer for this place for home delivery. I work night shift. Hence this was a feasible option for me. However for the last order i have waited for 2hrs and 30 mins to get the order. Placed the order by call @ 3am, fortunately had the delivery guys number and called him to get the status at around 4am. He said He couldn't reach me and hence order was delayed. Asked me if i still needed that order. I said yes, called half an hour later ( around 4:30 am) and the delivery person is unreachable. Called the owner and after a long discussion he said do u still need the order. Me being Hungry to the peak. Still politely said yes, after an hour (5:30, since I was bsy working) asked the status. Now this new guy on the phone(restaurant phone) says my order has been cancelled. Think if you need this kind of service.

I recently ordered food from Zomato from MS Mandi and Shawarma and was extremely disappointed with my experience. To start, the chicken wrap that I ordered had a very bad smell that made it almost impossible to even try, the chicken inside smelled very bad, like it was spoilt.

The fries that came with my meal were also a major disappointment. They were stale and lacked any kind of flavor, they looked like they were sitting there for hours, they put too much salt on the fries probably to mask the stale taste.

But perhaps the worst part of my meal was the fried chicken. The outside batter was rock hard and inedible, and the meat inside was dry and overcooked. It was clear that the chicken had been sitting out for quite some time before it was packed and sent to me.
