Kamat Upachar, Sira: A Disappointing Dining Experience

My recent dining experience at Kamat Upachar in Sira was nothing short of disappointing, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts on this visit. As someone who has previously enjoyed the delightful offerings at this restaurant, my expectations were high, but alas, they were far from met.

To start, my party and I ordered the sweet corn vegetable and mushroom chilli as our starters. To our dismay, these dishes fell far below our expectations. The sweet corn vegetable soup was a major letdown, containing barely any corn and lacking in flavour. It seemed like a sad rendition of what should have been a hearty and flavorful dish. As for the mushroom chilli, it tasted overwhelmingly of oil, with a noticeable absence of the promised spices and ingredients.

The disappointment didn't end with the starters. The plates provided to us were not even clean, and despite alerting the staff and requesting replacements, we were brought back plates that were still not properly cleaned, complete with water spots. This lack of attention to basic cleanliness is simply unacceptable, especially for a restaurant associated with a reputed chain.

Moving on to the main courses, our woes continued. We ordered the North Karnataka meal and veg fried rice. The veg fried rice was a disaster with no discernible flavour and an unpleasant, watery taste that left much to be desired. Fortunately, the North Karnataka meal included white rice and jolad roti, which were slightly better than the other dishes. However, this did little to salvage the overall dining experience.

Considering Kamat Upachar's reputation as a well-known chain of eateries, I expected a lot more attention to detail and quality. Sadly, this visit left me thoroughly disappointed. I hope this review serves as a reminder for the restaurant to reevaluate its standards and strive for the excellence it is known for. Dining out should be an enjoyable experience, but my recent visit to Kamat Upachar was...

If you are traveling along the Pune-Bangalore Highway and find yourself near Sira, Kamat Veg Restaurant is a good spot to take a break. Located on the left side of the highway while heading towards Bangalore, this restaurant offers ample parking space and clean, neat washrooms, making it a convenient and comfortable pit stop. Kamat Veg Restaurant has a charming, somewhat village-like ambiance with an earthy feel that is both relaxing and welcoming. The establishment is divided into two sections: a self-service area and a service hall, both of which are well-maintained and clean. The courteous staff and quick service further enhance the dining experience. The food at Kamat Veg Restaurant is good—not particularly exceptional but certainly nothing to complain about. It is the kind of place where you can expect a satisfying meal without any unpleasant surprises. The restaurant offers ample space to stretch out and relax, which is ideal for travelers looking to take a break from a long drive. One of the unique features of this restaurant is its open space, which sets it apart from the other 2-3 restaurants in the vicinity. The outdoor area allows you to enjoy a relaxed, village-like atmosphere that is perfect for unwinding. Additionally, there are shopping huts nearby selling traditional items, ( we didn’t buy any) There is also an exclusive sweet and Savory counter on site. Although we did not try it ourselves. The racks were a bit empty, leave it to your assumptions and analysis. Overall, Kamat Veg Restaurant in Sira is a good choice for highway travelers. Its convenient location, ample parking, clean facilities, and pleasant ambiance make it a standout option for a pit stop. Whether you need a meal, a break, or just a clean restroom, this restaurant has...

A Pleasant Breakfast Stop En Route to Bengaluru

While on a morning ride to Bengaluru, I made a quick stop at this restaurant for breakfast—and I’m glad I did. The experience was refreshingly smooth from start to finish.

Service & Ambience

The service here is impressively quick, ideal for travelers looking to get back on the road without long delays. What stood out to me was the courteous and efficient staff, the majority of whom are women. They were professional, attentive, and clearly good at what they do. The restaurant is clean and well-maintained, and the toilets were spotless—a detail that matters, especially on road trips. Ample free parking space was a big plus and made the stop even more convenient.

The Food

I ordered the Mysore Rava Masala Dosa, and it did not disappoint. The dosa was crisp and golden, with a mildly spicy Mysore chutney spread that gave it a nice kick without overwhelming the palate. The masala filling was flavorful and balanced, and it was served with coconut chutney and a unique vegetable kurma-style bhaji. The combination was a delightful departure from the usual accompaniments, adding a satisfying variety of textures and flavors to the meal.

Final Thoughts

This place is worth a visit for a quick, tasty, and hassle-free meal. Clean facilities, great staff, and delicious food makes it a solid breakfast stop on...

Located along the Pune-Bangalore highway, the place is a good pitstop for a refreshment. We visited in the morning and it was crowded and had to wait some time to get a seat. We ordered Idli Vada served with sambhar and chutney; Puri served with vegetable sagu (curry) and chutney and pineapple sheera. Service was quick and food was tasty too. Vada was crispy and Idli was soft. Prices are pocket friendly. The restrooms are outside and are maintained neat. Ample parking available as well. Another visit: after trying the place a couple of times for breakfast, we stopped here for dinner while on way back to Bangalore. It was open at around 10 pm as well and wasn't crowded much. We tried Paneer Makhan Masala, Tandoori Roti and Masala Papad along with Lassi, Buttermilk and Lime soda. While it didn't take too long for the order to arrive, the Paneer curry wasn't great and was bland. Wasn't expecting it to be so. Price was okay and the quantity sufficient for 5 rotis. Would suggest to avoid north Indian dishes if the taste can't be authentic or close enough.
