During my recent two-day visit to Black Fort in Thiruvalla on July 2nd and 3rd, 2024, I found the experience overall positive. On my first visit, which was for a birthday celebration, I was particularly impressed by the attentive service of the staff. They kindly accommodated our request to play a birthday song and allowed us to cut a small cake we brought, which added to the pleasant atmosphere of the AC room.
However, I must mention a concern regarding the quality of the tableware. Both days, we received plates with broken edges, which was disappointing. We brought this to the attention of the serving staff, and I hope this feedback prompts the management to address this issue promptly.
Regarding the food, the butter chicken gravy had a mild sweetness and consistency that were satisfactory, although the chicken pieces were somewhat chewy and undercooked despite being Tikka or tandoori style. This was mentioned to one of the staff members, who assured us they would address it. The butter roti was average, not exceptional, and the Smoky BBQ, while flavorful, featured chicken that was slightly tough and not as juicy as expected.
On the positive side, the Alfam dish stood out for its tenderness and excellent pairing with salad and mayonnaise. The Kuboos served was exceptionally soft and flavorful, which was commendable. Additionally, the off-menu suggestion of Butter Alfam, which came with two parottas, was flavorful, although it leaned towards being more creamy than buttery. It was priced at Rs. 500 for half the portion, which seemed a bit high.
The parottas provided on the second day were delightfully crispy and met our expectations, unlike the first day. The beef dry fry was a highlight, with crispy beef pieces complemented by crispy curry leaves and onions, delivering a delightful taste experience.
The restaurant offers two dining areas, and we chose the one near the entrance both times. The interior is elegantly simple, and we found the Fresh Lime drink to be refreshing. We also took home a parcel of egg noodles and egg fried rice, which my family found to be tasty.
Overall, we had a pleasant experience, despite the minor issues mentioned earlier. I would like to commend the kind and generous assistance provided by the staff, whom we tipped generously on both visits. Our bill amounted to approximately Rs. 1176 on the first day and Rs. 1350 on the second day.
In conclusion, Black Fort is a restaurant worth visiting, with the potential to further improve by addressing basic issues such as providing intact plates to customers. I recommend opting for the normal Alfam over any special...

Recently, my family and I had the pleasure of dining at Black Fort Cafe, and it was an experience we will never forget. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting.
The true stars of our meal were the Pal Porotta and Ambur Biryani.
The Pal Porotta was a visual delight, with its vibrant green color of the banana leaf on which it was served and perfect golden crispiness of the porotta. However, what truly set this dish apart was the unique preparation. The porotta was soaked in a rich, creamy coconut milk, and then served with a mouth-watering beef curry. The porotta absorbed the flavors of the curry, creating a delicious and satisfying dish. The spices used in the curry were perfectly balanced, and the beef was tender and flavorful.
Now, let me talk about the Ambur Biryani. This is not just a meal, but an experience. The biryani was bursting with aromatic basmati rice, tender pieces of marinated chicken. The aroma was intoxicating, and each spoonful was a symphony of flavors. The biryani was well-spiced, but not overpowering, allowing the natural flavors of the beef to shine through.
The service at Black Fort Cafe was exceptional as well. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to ensure our meal was enjoyable. They even offered suggestions on pairing our dishes with the perfect beverages.
In conclusion, Black Fort Cafe has earned a special place in our hearts and will undoubtedly be a regular stop for our family meals. The Pal Porotta and Ambur Biryani are must-try dishes, but I am confident that every dish on their menu will be just as delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic, flavorful, and memorable dining experience. The unique preparation of the Pal Porotta made it a standout dish that we will be craving for...
Read moreSummary: Hands down, one of the best restaurants in Thirumoolapuram and probably even in Thiruvalla itself.
Detailed review:
Ordered a few items from here (home delivery) for a family get together on Nov 30th. There were 15 of us in all across various ages (60+, mid 40’s, mid 30’s, Teens and kids). Ordered Chicken Kadai, paneer tikka butter masala, mix veg curry (not on the menu but the owner, Albert, was kind enough to make it for us), al Faham chicken, chicken shawarma, chicken and veg Alfredo pasta, veg fried rice and rotis.
The portion sizes were really good. One curry is sufficient for 2 semi- hungry adults. The al faham chicken was excellent (I’ve eaten a lot of chicken varieties and this is definitely in my top 3 now). Paneer tikka was really good as well (so much paneer!) but the real highlight was the simple yet delicious Mix Veg curry, which was perfectly made (received great reviews from the elders in the house).
The restaurant ambience (when I went to place the order in person) was awesome. Can’t believe such a a restaurant in Thirumoolapuram! Small yet well- maintained, air conditioned and very welcoming (even had a large screen TV with some Maroon 5 music video playing on it).
Albert was very response to the endless questions I had before I placed the order and delivered order on time. Order came in fresh and piping hot.
Overall, extremely happy with the overall experience. Definitely recommend you giving the...
