Garudagiri Toddy Shop, nestled in the picturesque region of Kuttanad, Kerala, offers an authentic culinary experience that beautifully encapsulates the essence of traditional Kuttanadan cuisine. Renowned for its serene ambiance, the establishment features individual huts that provide diners with privacy and a tranquil view of the surrounding backwaters, enhancing the overall dining experience. During our recent visit, we indulged in a variety of their signature dishes, each reflecting the rich culinary heritage of the region the Duck Roast stood out with its tender duck meat enveloped in a robust blend of spices, offering a delightful depth of flavor that lingered pleasantly on the palate. Kada Fry (Quail Fry) expertly fried to achieve a crispy exterior while maintaining succulent meat inside, the quail was seasoned to perfection, making it a highlight of our meal. Kappa (Tapioca) a staple in Kerala cuisine, the kappa served here was soft and paired wonderfully with spicy gravies, embodying comfort food at its best. Chenna (Yam): Cooked to the right consistency, the yam dish offered a subtle earthiness that complemented the more robust flavors of the meal. The beef was cooked tender, infused with aromatic spices that elevated its taste, making it a must-try for meat enthusiasts.Varal Fry (Snakehead Murrel Fish Fry) this fish fry was a testament to the freshness of the seafood available, with its crispy exterior and moist, flavorful flesh.Manja Koori Curry was a delightful surprise, the curry was rich and savory, with the sweetness of the crab meat balancing the spicy gravy. The Appam was soft, lacy rice pancakes were the perfect accompaniment to the various curries, especially enhancing the flavors of the chemmeen roast and the Chemmeen Roast (Prawn Roast) were fresh and juicy, cooked in a spicy masala that was both aromatic and flavorful, showcasing the expertise of the chefs. The service at Garudagiri Toddy Shop was commendable, with staff exhibiting warmth and attentiveness, ensuring that our dining experience was both comfortable and memorable. The combination of delectable dishes, serene ambiance, and excellent service makes this establishment a standout destination for those seeking an authentic taste of Kerala's culinary delights.

We stumbled upon Garudagiri, a toddy shop cum restaurant, and were delighted to discover a culinary gem! Although we didn't try the toddy, the food was exceptional, and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. Highlights: - The Kareemeen Pollichathu (Pearl Spot Fish) and Kakka Irachi Fry were OUT OF THE WORLD! The flavors, texture, and presentation were spot on! - The Beef Roast, Duck Roast, Kappa (Tapioca), Porotta, and Cheembu (Colocasia) were all delicious and authentic Kerala-style dishes. - The private dining areas (27 in total) offer a cozy and intimate setting, perfect for families or groups. The hall is ideal for larger gatherings. - Ample parking space is a bonus! - Staff were warm, welcoming, and helpful in selecting dishes based on portion sizes. Ambiance: - Located near a picturesque paddy field, the view is simply spectacular! - The setting is family-friendly and private, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing meal. Pricing: - Reasonable prices for an experience like this, but not too cheap. Worth every penny! Overall, Garudagiri offers an authentic toddy shop-style food experience in a charming, family-friendly ambiance. Don't miss this hidden gem if you're a foodie or looking for a unique dining experience! Recommendation: Try the Kareemeen Pollichathu and Kakka Irachi Fry - you won't regret it!

Wonderful place, well located beside backwaters. Always crowded but have good space of parking and also to accommodate a lot of people together. Small huts which can have people from 5 to 6, Big huts and so on. Common area also available. Waiting period depends up on the availability of hut. In my case I shared a large hut with a family first and later with some bachelors. Items Tried: Crab Roast : Aweome taste and flavour. Backwater crab i guess, decent size and price. Fish Curry: Horabagrus brachysoma (Manja Koori) awesome curry, perfect kerala style curry. Again size of fish and price were decent. Pork Fry: Decent quantity and price, Again taste was simply awesome. Fish Fry: Heteropneustes fossilis (Kaari fry) This was the only dish which didnt match my expectations. Fish size was small and taste was also not that great. Tapioca : Awesome taste again, perfect matched with Crab roast gravy and fish curry. Mixed Roots: Kozha - Was good of good taste and worth to try. Fish curry Meals: Wonderful meals and very much worth the price. Toddy: Sweet one. I pot can serve 4 glasses. Price is again a very decent one. Due to great taste, i took crab roast and tapioca parcel home as well. Very much recommended and worth to try.

Review:

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a toddy shop, and I must say it was quite an experience. Nestled amidst the lush countryside, this quaint establishment offered an authentic taste of local culture and a chance to immerse myself in the vibrant ambiance of a toddy shop.

Atmosphere: As soon as I stepped through the doors, I was greeted by the warm, rustic charm of the toddy shop. The walls adorned with rustic decor, the aroma of spices wafting through the air, and the lively chatter of patrons created an inviting and lively atmosphere. The setting was simple, yet it exuded a sense of authenticity and tradition that made me feel instantly at ease.

Service: The service was friendly and efficient, with the staff always ready to guide me through the menu and offer recommendations. They were knowledgeable about the different varieties of toddy and traditional dishes available, and their enthusiasm for their craft was contagious.

Toddy: Ah, the toddy! The star of the show. I was pleasantly surprised by the range of flavors and the craftsmanship that went into the creation of each glass. From the smooth and slightly sweet traditional toddy to the intriguing flavored variations, there was something to suit every palate. Sipping on the toddy was a delight, as I savored the subtle nuances and appreciated the skillful fermentation process that resulted in such a unique drink.

Food: To complement the toddy, the toddy shop offered a delectable selection of traditional dishes. I indulged in some mouthwatering seafood delicacies, like spicy prawns and fish fry, which paired exceptionally well with the toddy. The flavors were robust, the spices well-balanced, and the freshness of the ingredients was evident. It was a true feast for the senses.

Value for Money: While the toddy shop provided an exceptional experience, I did find the pricing a tad higher than expected. However, considering the quality of the toddy, the delicious food, and the overall ambiance, I would say it was still worth the investment. It's the kind of place you visit for the experience rather than just the affordability.

Overall, my visit to the toddy shop was a memorable one. The combination of rich cultural heritage, warm hospitality, and tantalizing flavors made it a truly delightful experience. Whether you're a local or a curious traveler looking to explore the traditional side of the region, this toddy shop is definitely worth a visit. Just be prepared to indulge in the flavors, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere, and let the toddy...

I had visited this restaurant on 12th May 2023, and I must say that I was quite disappointed with my experience. While the service and private huts were satisfactory, the main aspect that matters the most, the food, fell far short of expectations. One of the major drawbacks of this restaurant is the exorbitant prices they charge for their dishes and toddy.

Considering the quality and taste of the food, the prices seem unjustifiably high. In fact, the nearby shops offer much better-tasting food at more reasonable prices, making it difficult to justify the expenses at this restaurant. Speaking specifically about the food, it was far from impressive. The flavors and taste levels were not up to par with what one would expect from a restaurant in this area. The dishes lacked the authentic and delicious flavors that are usually associated with similar establishments nearby. I was truly let down by the overall quality of the food served.

Additionally, I must mention my disappointment with the toddy offered at this restaurant. It resembled more of a sugary juice rather than the authentic and well-balanced toddy one would expect. This compromised the overall experience for me, as I had anticipated enjoying a refreshing and traditional toddy.

It is important to note that this review reflects my personal experience on a specific date, and it may not be indicative of the restaurant's overall performance. However, based on my visit, I cannot recommend this restaurant solely based on the poor quality of the food and the high prices.

While the service and private huts were commendable, it is crucial for a restaurant to excel in its core offering: the food. Unfortunately, this restaurant fell short in that aspect. I hope that the management takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving the overall dining experience, particularly in terms of taste and value for money.

Disclaimer: Please note that restaurant experiences can vary, and it is always advisable to visit and form your...
