Visited Kadaloram restaurant with a group of colleagues yesterday for dinner. We chose this place since the reviews we heard were positive regarding the quality sea food and the ambience. But in sharp contrast to the reviews, our experience was terrible.
Ambience : Nothing much to write about except that the shack is very near to the sea shore. No pest control measures were in place and hence flies and insects were roaming around the lamp shades during the dinner time. Some even managed to gel into our dishes!!!
Food: Overpriced, very less quantity and substandard quality. We ordered almost all sea food varieties ranging from Prawns, Crab, Squid to mackerel and anchovy. Prawns and squid served to us was undercooked. Crab was small sized and, deep fried and tasteless. Seer fish (neymeen) was stale. We paid Rs.350 for six pieces of medium sized prawns, which was tasteless and raw!! Only the mackerel fry was good. Most of the dishes were deep fried in coconut oil,the taste of sea food was inexistent and the flavour of oil dominated.
Price: As I mentioned earlier, the seafood food is steeply overpriced. We, a group of 15 colleagues, had to shell out Rs.6000 for such an underwhelming seafood experience of our lives.
Verdict: Avoid. Better visit seafood restaurants located at Vizhinjam, which serves fresh catch and yet light on...
Read moreKadaloram is a hidden gem. Located right near to the beautiful Vettucaud church, this small restaurant packs quite a punch. Eating here would be best, cause the ambience is good. You have the steady ocean waves crashing as your BGM. Even the restaurant doesn't encourage parcels as they believe the freshness of the dish would be compromised.
Parking is not an issue. There's ample space. Evenings however may be crowded and there is limited seating inside the restaurant.
Menu changes depending on the catch of the day. Crabs, Prawns, Squid were available when we visited. Ordering the crab will give you less time for conversation as you would be using all your time to gorge on all of that delicious crab meat. Pricing was reasonable for the quantity we got.
The restaurant has a policy of healthy eating. They don't have milk tea, soft drinks, porotta or meals, as they believe these are not gut friendly. They do offer complimentary black teas which are delicious. Their focus is on the customers enjoying fish. They would like to bring you closer to seafood. Hence seafood takes the spotlight here. The service is reasonably fast and we'll staffed. Open from 11-11. Definitely a must visit if you come...
Read moreHad gone there after seeing the huge amount of reviews raving about the taste of the food and the view it presents but was disappointed. Tried their Mackerel fry, Squid fry and Choorapuli along with Ghee rice and Chapati.
Mackerel was fresh but the fish fry as such was nothing much to talk about. It was a normal fish fry provided at an exorbitant price of INR 150 for a piece.
Squid fry was also nothing out of the ordinary as far as taste is concerned but the quantity served for INR 300 was less.
Choorapuli was really tasty and the only dish that can be appreciated apart from the Sulaimani tea.
As far as I am concerned, overall the experience was not anything near to what the large number of reviews about this place makes it out to be. This might be due to the expectation levels that gets set in your mind after reading the numerous reviews available...
