Rice bowl is one of the best multi-cuisine restaurants in Palakkad -Coimbatore highway. This restaurant is exactly located in Walayar and it opens at around 11:00 am goes till midnight and serves one of the best options to have lunch/dinner while plying through this route.

Place:

Place is clean and well maintained. The restaurant also has got ample space to park your vehicles. The place looks nice and will be well illuminated with dim yellow lights during evenings.

Service: Service was good. Staffs were courteous and attentive. They were able to deliver my order within the stipulated time.

My Culinary delight:

I have been here multiple times mainly during evenings and I was able to try different dishes in each of my visits. So far I have tried their Chicken Biriyani (F), Beef Curry, Parotta, Hyderbadi Chicken 65, Ghee Rice, Chicken Cutlet, French fries, Coffee. I personally liked all the dishes that I've tried so far. I felt few of the dishes are exorbitant and few others are reasonable and has done justice the amount which we are paying.

In my first visit I tried their Chicken Biriyani (F)( Rs 180).. I liked the biriyani and the quantity was ample for one person. The biriyani looked yellow in color just like our normal Malabar biriyani and it was embellished with fried onions. The biriyani contained 2 good pieces of well cooked and tendered chicken and one boiled egg as well. Supplements were raita and 2 sets of pickle. I was happy to see the boiled egg too embedded inside the biriyani as nowadays we won't get boiled egg in chicken biriyani. The biriyani was well presented in the bowl as well. Overall I felt their biriyani was worth for 180. Then I tried their beef curry and parotta. Both were equaly good especially the beef curry I liked it very much. The taste and proportion of the ingredients were perfect and it went well with my parotta. The parotta in turn was very soft, flaky and it was freshly served. In my next visit I opted for their Chicken Cutlet,Ghee Rice,French fries and Hyderbadi Chicken 65.

Chicken Cutlet - Cutlets served were fresh and it was really good. For 100 Rs you will get 4 pieces and it was really worth for that amount. The normal price of a chicken cutlet in a standard bakery will come around 25 rs so If you are getting a chicken cutlet from a restaurant like this for Rs 25 then it is really worth enough. A bowl of sauce was given.

Ghee Rice - I opted for full ghee rice. The amount was 100. The quantity was amazing. It was more than enough for 2 persons and I had to share it with the other person to finish it off. The taste was good since it was not a flavored rice you might require a side dish to accomplish smoothly.

Hyderbadi Chicken 65- This was the special dish of that day. I happened to see this while entering their washroom so without a second thought I went in for this dish. The quantity was decent and the plate contained good number of small chicken pieces. The taste was bit hot considering it as a Hyderbadi dish. The dish looked like a Chinese dish and even I felt the taste as same that of a chilly chicken. But the price was really exorbitant. For this special dish they charged 280 Rs and I felt it was not worth for that amount.

French Fries - The taste was good and the quantity was ample for 2 persons. The rate was Rs 90

Coffee - Coffee will be always good no matter from where you have.

Altogether I had a great dining experience here and I would certainly visit this place again during my intermittent trips through this route. Its certainly the best family restaurant in Palakkad-Coimbatore highway.People who are coming by bus or other modes of transport might find it difficult to reach here as it is on the main road and it might be difficult for them to get a return bus from here .If you have a personal vehicle then this is certainly a good option to have some good food. Wide variety of dishes when combined with amazing taste and cozy environment makes them a preferred choice for having great food especially for the students who study in...

Rice Bowl Restaurant in Palakkad has become a regular weekend spot for us, primarily because it offers authentic Kerala-style meals in a clean and cozy setting. As a Malayali restaurant, it has a comforting familiarity, which draws in a lot of local families and we are no exception.

One thing we appreciate about Rice Bowl is the warm gesture of serving fresh juice as a welcome drink. It’s a simple touch, but it makes guests feel valued right from the beginning. This kind of hospitality is rare and worth mentioning.

In terms of food, the restaurant is fairly average. While it doesn’t disappoint completely, it also doesn’t wow in terms of flavor or uniqueness. The dishes are decent, but nothing stands out as exceptional. We do feel that the overall taste could be improved especially for those who have experienced more flavorful Kerala cuisine elsewhere. Among the menu items, their pasta dishes are surprisingly good. Well cooked, creamy, and satisfying they’ve clearly put effort into getting the pasta right. However, the chicken and beef dishes need improvement. The meat is sometimes dry or under-seasoned, and the gravies don’t always bring out the bold, spicy flavors one expects from Kerala non-veg preparations. With a little more attention to these dishes, the restaurant could greatly enhance its appeal to non-veg food lovers.

The service is generally friendly, though it can be a bit slow during busy weekend hours. The ambiance is pleasant and family-friendly, and the place is kept clean, which adds to the overall positive experience. Rice Bowl is a good option if you’re looking for a simple, Kerala-style meal in Palakkad. It’s not a place for gourmet dining, but it delivers comfort food in a welcoming atmosphere. With a few improvements to key dishes, especially chicken and beef items, it has the potential to become a favorite for many more customers. For now, we continue visiting mainly for the homely vibe and consistent service and of course, the welcoming juice...

Edit Visited again today. Food (biriyani and meals) was great. However service was disappointing. After finishing our main course and before having dessert, we went to wash out hands. The waiting staff kept a "reserved" board on our table. However, on coming back, a very arrogant family had occupied our table. Despite explaining to them that we are yet to have our dessert, they refused to move!!! Not wanting to spoil our mood, we didn't argue with those morons. The wait staff also didn't help. Since we didn't want to miss dessert, we had our dessert while standing! Elaneer pudding was substandard and not worth the effort we took to have it. Wait staff needs proper training on how to handle such customers who can be a bunch of morons who will spoil the experience for other customers. Great food. Ambience was very nice. Stopped here for dinner on the way to Kerala. Food taste was good. Had the biriyani, noolu porotta and chicken noodles. Porotta and chicken curry was too good. Noodles was kind of ok. Biriyani was good. Restrooms were clean. Parking space was sufficient when I visited. Definitely recommend this place.
