I visited this restaurant/cafe with my family and we all had low expectations from the place thanks to the location. But it was a big rollercoaster ride of emotions that we had here honestly.
We reached the location and even though we wanted to visit it during sunset we reached around 6:10 pm and the sun had already set by then. But the decor and set up of the place was beautiful. Totally bowled over by the aesthetics of the Dockyard co and couldn't believe that we were at Kidderpore.
A beautiful clock tower, the huge golden bell, the seating, the lighting and the river front. We could see the Vidyasagar Setu very clearly. It's a trip to the Dockyard as you pass through the swivel bridge, ships around and a wounding road to reach the entrance. There's a huge punching machine and a lovely stone memoir to talk about the history of the dock.
Now coming to reality...we didn't get a table for almost 10-15 mins because of which we started to walk around and explore the area. We didn't know that this place would be so famous honestly and that the new app District was needed for a table. But we didn't complain as the weather was good despite the heat.
Once we got our table we decided to order our dinner along with a few starters as we had time. Sadly the drinks menu is a total cheat! The prices of the alcohol served is exorbitant to say the least and mind you it's only for a peg 🥹😅🫡
We kept chatting about how we should bring others here and that emotion quickly dwindled down as the food took aeons to reach us. Out of our ordered 8 dishes ( starters included) we got only 4 in the next 40 mins. The next 4 took further time and we requested the server to cancel it if it wasn't ready or if it would take a longer wait.
We thought this would speed up the food but he happily said ok ma'am..sorry we can cancel it 😦
So we paid up and left. So even though the atmosphere is nice, the place has a lot to work on. Slow service is a big issue and the food quality. Whatever managed to reach our table was quite mediocre. Nothing great.
So once the place can bring up the standard of food and service, I would then call it a must visit. Else, please visit for coffee or light food that too if you're not hungry...the place will induce hunger and maybe of you're on a date this place would be good. It's quite romantic and the slow service will allow you time with your partner 😅😅😅
I forgot to mention they offer a welcome waiting drink at the bar outside so please don't miss that as we did. They also...

As you step into the premises, the first thing that captures your attention is the breathtaking view of the river, especially during sunset — a truly calming experience that feels like a brief escape from the bustle of daily life.
🌿 Ambience & Seating
The ambience is one of the biggest highlights of this place. The open, spacious layout with thoughtfully arranged seating provides a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Whether you're catching up with friends or just enjoying some alone time with a view, the space feels designed for comfort and ease. The gentle breeze from the river adds to the overall charm — though it's worth noting that summer heat can become quite uncomfortable, especially during peak afternoon hours. A little more shade or mist fans could significantly improve the warm-weather experience.
🧑💼 Service & Management
The service was decent — staff members were responsive and courteous, managing orders without unnecessary delays. However, the management leaves a lot to be desired. There seemed to be a lack of coordination and efficiency in how things were being overseen, which slightly detracted from the overall experience. A more attentive and organized management team could elevate the dockyard's potential considerably.
🍽 Food Quality & Pricing
Now coming to the core part — the food. Unfortunately, this was the most underwhelming aspect of the visit. The dishes were just average in taste, lacking the punch or uniqueness you’d hope for in a café located in such a premium setting. Moreover, the food felt overpriced for the quality served, which is disappointing given the potential the place holds. It’s not that the food was bad — just that it didn’t live up to the expectations set by the ambience and the view.
🌟 Overall Experience
This place shines in terms of location and ambience, offering a scenic and relaxing spot perfect for photos, quiet conversations, or peaceful reflection by the river. However, to make it truly memorable, improvements are needed in management and food quality, and better provisions for summer comfort would be greatly appreciated.
