The cleanliness of the facilities was appreciated and made our stop more comfortable.

That said, there are several areas where the experience fell short: Food Pricing and Value: We ordered the mini thali, priced at ₹340, which we found to be overpriced given the portion size and quality of the food. The price did not justify the value offered, leaving us feeling disappointed. Food Quality and After-Effects: While the food was palatable at first, it left us feeling bloated and uncomfortable after the meal. This raises concerns about the freshness or preparation methods of the food, as such after-effects should not occur with a well-prepared meal. Ambiance and Presentation: The restaurant has a noticeable tie-up with liquor businesses, which is evident from their choice of tableware. Water was served in whiskey glasses, and lime water came in beer mugs. While this might appeal to some, it could be off-putting for families or those seeking a more neutral dining experience. Crowded Environment: The restaurant tends to get quite crowded, likely due to the limited dining options in the area. While this speaks to its popularity, it also means the dining experience can feel rushed or cramped, especially during peak hours.

While the retreat offers a variety of dishes, the pricing seems steep for the quality provided. For instance, a simple meal for two can cost around ₹1,000 , which feels excessive given the average taste and presentation. 

Use of Plastic Melamine Utensils

The use of plastic melamine utensils was unexpected and disappointing. For an establishment positioning itself as a premium stopover, the reliance on such materials detracts from the dining experience and raises environmental concerns. 

Lack of Air Conditioning

Despite the region’s high temperatures, the dining area lacked proper air conditioning. This oversight made the dining experience uncomfortable, especially during peak afternoon hours.

Questionable Referral Practices

It appears that some taxi drivers receive commissions or incentives for bringing customers to Balraj Retreat. While this is a common practice in many tourist areas, it can lead to biased recommendations, potentially diverting visitors from exploring other local eateries.
