If you love misal and if you are on a pilgrimage of OG Misal joints in maharashtra then you can't miss this place. "Bawada Misal" is one of the oldest misal restaurants in Kolhapur and probably in Maharashtra too running in post centennial year! 💯 They Serve one of the best misals in Kolhapur since 1923. Restaurant is run now by the fourth generation. The taste of misal is authentic kolhapuri and OLD SCHOOL. This misal is known for its rich flavors and traditional preparation. Mind you its a Traditional preparation of misal. Even the 4th generation hasn't adulterated the original recipe. They have been composed and restrained themselves from a temptation of changing things with changing times. The old charm, originality and consistency is a surely a key to be relavant, even if your ways are old.
Place/Atmosphere (3/5): The place is easy to locate on Google maps. Parking is kind of difficult to find. Only street parking is available. There are clearly 2 sections, Family section and open section, divided by cubicle wooden partition to separate. The sitting, decor overall vibes are totally old charm. The Restaurant has been stiff about the generational recipe which is the best thing but I can't say the same with the overall sitting, decor and facilities for customers with same inclination. They can improve the setting and rennovate, without disturbing the old charm. I hope management will take note of it.
Hygine (5/5): Despite minimal settings, the utmost care is taken for cleanliness and hygine. I appreciate the staff and owner, for staff wearing clean uniforms and hair net all the time.
Food (5/5): The misal is typical old style kolhapuri misal with no non-sense. If you ask them to serve you misal, they will serve you misal and they won't feed you with some additional papad/sweets/namkeen. I had orderd only misal pav.
The ensmable was done in perfect manner i.e. Batata, topped with Mataki (sprout), topped with Shev Chivda (This is shev chivda misal and not Farsan misal), which was then covered with spicy patal bhaji/Rassa and for more hotness a bit of CUT (कट/तर्री) as per your liking and your tolerance. And Dahi is optional to make it mild if you are not ready for hot n spicy tarri. And of course it is served with kolhapuri Peti Pav.
Service (5/5): I really appreciate all the servers. They were quiet polite, humble, soft spoken, attentive, and fast. They will serve you with a smile. You Won't have to ask them anything twice. Even after finishing your meal, they will ask for feedback (even from regular patrons).
PLEASE READ!!!!! Special note to the people who are not from kolhapur (has different perception of misal and PAV BEING only Laadi Pav):
The old style kolhapuri Misal is totally a different game, even from other misals in kolhapur. The spices, the ensemble of misal, serving style and presentation is totally different than latest misals all over the maharashtra, including some places in kolhapur.
This specific taste pallette is different due to sweeter notes of onion but hot & spicy as hell and it even won't hurt you the next day 😃 and thats why it is unique and of course absolutley fantastic. You can find somewhat similar taste pallette in AHAR misal, KHASBAG misal, Sadhana Cafe, Hotel Jay Bhawani etc too. So empty your cups of perceptions and then come here for your clean fill. And once you do that, you will definitely fall in love with kolhapuri misal.
And one more thing, in kolhapur misal or Vada is served with PETI PAV (पेटी पाव). Its not our regular thinly sliced bread used for bread butter/sandwich. It has clearly the most soft texture, no dryness at all, it won't crumble at all. And is definitely baked and cut in Thick slices only for Misal (to soak the Rassa) and kolhapuri jumbo Vada (Batatevada) . Once you try it on your own, you will know the difference and will definitely forget your prejudiced opinions lead by false naratives on...
