Good but could have been better!
If one is returning from HArihareshwar and similar other places post check out and it's lunch time by the time you hit the highway, then this is one place for a decent meal. (Yes, it takes at least couple of hours - 3 hours to travel a distance of 60 kms ... simply pathetic roads).
The driver anyway has to take a break to avoid back issues (Again, reiterating the fact that the potholes amidst something called road vary in depth and size and will strain your back!).
We ordered veg - konkani thali, veg-punjabi thali, kombdi-vade, chinese triple and few other things. Overall the food was ok. However, if you look at the size of bowl (vaati) then the serving size is quite small. For a veg-konkani thali, there were 3 bhajis - chawli, cabbage, aalu along with rice, small paper cup of solkadi, dal ... For a normal adult, that's less.
At a konkani joint, don't make the mistake of ordering chinese - it's simply ok! Actually, along the konkan belt, chinese food implies - bit of rice, bit of noodles, lots of oil and masala tossed in a big pan.
Car parking is available. There is a small pond kind structure next to the restaurant, so that's good. During summer, I suspect heat will play a big role as it's an open air place. But, as I said earlier, not too many options along the road... Jai Maharashtra!
The good - Location, Parking, overall ambience, non-veg. The bad - Veg is not a preferred choice. The ugly - The heat, dust and pollution. Value for...
Read moreHotel Open Umbrella, once a popular restaurant on the Mumbai Goa Highway near Mangao, may have been partially hidden by the construction of a nearby flyover, but it still remains a great option for travelers. Despite the flyover, the hotel has made efforts to advertise its presence with boards that, while not entirely effective, are still noticeable to those passing by.One of the standout features of Hotel Open Umbrella is its own small lake, which adds to the hotel's charm and provides a serene atmosphere for guests. The hotel's location on the highway makes it an ideal stopover for weary travelers, and its ample parking space is a welcome convenience.
What truly sets Hotel Open Umbrella apart is its commitment to sustainability. The hotel provides a charging point for electric vehicles (EVs), allowing travelers to comfortably charge their vehicles while they enjoy their food. This feature is a game-changer for those traveling in EVs, as charging stations can be hard to come by on long highway trips. The hotel's staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring that guests feel welcome and well taken care of. The food is delicious and reasonably priced, making it an excellent value...
Read morePathetic service! This was our 3rd time to this place in last 1 year. Out of 3 visits, twice we were disappointed. 1st time disappointment - the order came late- about an hour! Order was chicken thali. We had no roti, no chapati. Reason- they were short of staff! This time when we visited, the manager was so rude, he actually picked up the menu card from us and told us that I cannot send any waiter to your place as I have 2 waiters only. They will come after 30 mins to your table to take order. We requested the waiter talking to the manager near his desk to take order, he said he won't take the order. Quoting - we are short of staff. Our manager hasn't recruited staff. You better go to another hotel. The waiter moved away and sat on a dining table. Pathetic service to another level. Definitely I will request any foreign tourist or any tourist who wants to see our kokan to not visit this place! This place does not resemble the respect that Maharashtra tourism or kokan tourism or kokan...
