KOKAN is a 720 km long western coastline of India spread across the states of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. It lies between the Arabian Sea on one side and the Western Ghats on the other. Konkani food is mostly influenced by the traditions and mixed culture of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. Seafood like prawns, crabs and fish, coconut and local spices are some of the main ingredients used in their delicacies. You will also find a lot of fiery and spicy dishes with a hint of coconut. Although Konkani foods are pre-dominantly non-vegetarian, the vegetarian fare is equally delicious and special one. Yesterday I visited MASALA KITCHEN,near mandavi beach, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. So here I am with my overall food experience of Kokani sea food.
• Pomfret fry:- A delicious, pan fried pomfret dish made with authentic Konkani masala. Its spicy, its tangy and having aroma heavenly. As for the fish, good for health, low oil fish that’s crispy on the outside and wonderfully succulent inside. Perfection!!!
• Rawas fry thali:- This thali contains two big fresh slice of rawas fish rawa fry, authentic kokani curry (spicy with coconut flavour ), fish suka , jawala ( dried tiny prawns made with fresh onion base) mixed with chilly powder, coconut chutney, tandalachi bhakari( roti made from rice flour), sol kadi and Plain rice.
• Prawns fry:- Prawns fry is a sea food dish tried by me and prawns fry is shallow fried in little bit of oil and I must say the recipe which has been made has turned out amazing experience for the prawn lover... delicious and mouth watering..
• Tuna fish ticklee:- Simple kokani fish recipe that tastes delicious, healthy and quick to make. Strong red chilli masala and amsool as they like to keep the fish flavour dominant.
• Sol kadi (soul cury)This is a famous drink from Konkan region. Sol Kadi is a drink which is made with tangy kokum or aamsol and coconut milk. Sol kadi is known to cool down the digestive system after...
Read moreI basically don’t give any reviews in terms of food, honestly speaking am a global traveller, and roamed a lot of hang out spots. Truly believe this review make them to understand.
Pitfalls for this restaurant.
30 mins waiting time for food Waiter / management is not ready to take feedback not suitable for kids (extra spicy) Eating environment is not suitable (suffocation) irrespective of water spray We are also from Maharashtra and know what’s bhakri and how it’s made, the bhakri provided with the meal was half cooked, we gave this feedback to the waiter he was not ready to take the feedback rather insisted to eat ! I am myself a full time cook, I do fish rava tawa fry, and being from coastal side of MH we are aware how the fried fish looks, frankly speaking the fish masala remained raw and it wasn’t fried well ! , some parts were burnt and some were raw. When PM insists to use digital payments, they are still asking for cash, and Gpay is not a preferred payment mode. ( you can agree/ disagree with me )
Having said all these, what kind of positive feedback I can give is, fish curry was good and the rice.
I have to eventually point Google for not taking authentic reviews. We could have avoided such restaurants running on the name of tradition. Posting the pic for other travellers.
Folks , pals , be aware of this restaurant. Just sharing my experience . It’s your decision to make up !!
Updated - I saw the response from the owner/ care taker. Frankly speaking no bhakri was given when we have informed him - such a liar, instead of accepting the hard truth , the barrer was giving explanation, and in the kitchen the Bhakri was prepared by a lady !! Should I add more ? Mr shop owner don’t try to play , Netizens are reading the review.. double check before you write !!
Would like to remind you Gpay is not an Authorised payment method .. Please check before...

I tried the Surmai Thali and was impressed by the freshness and taste of the fish. The accompanying Kombadi Vade was the best I've ever had. Even the vegetarian options, such as Aluwadi and Kothimbir Wadi, were delightful surprises in a predominantly non-vegetarian establishment.
Service & Staff The staff at Masala Kitchen are courteous and efficient. Our orders were served promptly, and the team ensured that we had everything we needed for a comfortable dining experience.
