Nestled in the serene coastal town of Pawas, O'Fish is an absolute gem for seafood lovers, offering an authentic taste of Konkan cuisine. As a food expert, I was eager to try their famous fish thalis, and I must say, it lived up to the hype and more.
The moment you step into O'Fish, you're greeted with a warm, welcoming ambiance that reflects the simplicity and charm of the region. But the real magic begins when the food arrives. Their fish thalis are the star of the menu, offering a delightful symphony of flavors that will transport you straight to the heart of coastal Maharashtra.
The thali I tried featured a perfectly fried surmai (kingfish) that was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, cooked with a spice blend that balanced the natural flavor of the fish without overwhelming it. The accompanying sol kadhi, a traditional drink made from kokum and coconut milk, was refreshing and the perfect palate cleanser. The rice bhakri and chapati were fresh and soft, ideal for scooping up the flavorful, mildly spicy curry that accompanied the thali.
What truly sets O'Fish apart is the quality of the seafood. Every bite of fish was fresh, showcasing the natural sweetness and delicate texture that only comes from fish sourced daily from local fishermen. The prawns and bangda (mackerel) were equally delightful, cooked to perfection with traditional masalas that didn’t overpower the fish’s flavor but enhanced it beautifully.
The variety in their thalis ensures that there’s something for every seafood lover, and the portions are generous, leaving you satisfied without feeling overly stuffed. The attention to detail, from the freshness of the fish to the careful seasoning of each dish, reflects the passion that goes into their food.
O'Fish is a must-visit for anyone in or around Pawas, not just for the excellent food but for the entire experience of savoring authentic coastal flavors in a relaxed, no-frills environment. It’s a seafood haven that strikes the perfect balance between taste, quality, and tradition. Highly...
Read moreThis might be too little too late but we believe strongly in better late than never and that something is better than nothing. We were on a road trip from Mumbai to Kolhapur with a visit to Ganapatiphule on the way. In Ganpatiphule we stayed at the MTDC which is right on the beach and outside the main Ganeshji's temple. While the location and amenities and service and the boat club at MTDC was outstanding, the food was equally pathetic, miserable and this lead us to look out for some eateries outside the MTDC. While the most popular one we came across was Sameer but we did not try it as it was a bit crowded and we would require to Q up as it was small but this definitely meant the food was good. However, we moved on and bumped into a place called O Fish on Malgund beach about 4.5km from MTDC Ganapatiphule. And what a find it turned out to be. Simply delicious fresh food topped with some loving and caring service. Right on the Malgund beach we reached for dinner and ordered all local delicacies along with Bhakris, we tried the malwani chicken, prawns fry followed by Surmai curry simply out of the world. We were so happy with this place that we decided to have all our meals here. So next we found ourselves for lunch at O Fish. We started to order and the captain seemed very hesitant and eventually called the Chef to speak to us. Chef Nagesh, what a lovely person and took care of what we should eat. He suggested we go for the local favorites Sardines wand crabs as that was the only sea food available that day, we relished it. Chef Nagesh asked if we intended to comeover for dinner in which case he insisted to try the tandoori promfret, bombil fry and Ukadi Modaks for deserts, we followed his lead and were more than pleased to have done so. This little gem of a restaurant in the middle of nowhere is a must try when...
Read morePosting this to warn you to not go by all the five star reviews..
We visited this place looking at all the five star reviews on Google, and the massive ads all over the place for this. This restaurant is named O Fish, and the irony is the fish is literally stale, burnt to a charcoal level and the waiters and chef are clueless and unapologetically stubborn.
We ordered four surmai thalis and a malwani chicken dish with a clueless waiter who I'm still not sure spoke which language exactly, because we used marathi, Hindi and English and to all these he had a standard nonplussed expression. The food arrived, burnt chunks of surmai. When we asked the staff about it they said this is how rawa fried fish normally is. When we confronted them with the fact that we are goans, eating fish everyday as our standard diet, and that was definitely rawa burnt fish, not fried, they brought us replacements. It was only then that we realised why the chef had burnt the previous batch... Because the fish was atleast a month in the freezer if not more. Such a disgusting feeling to be eating that horrible stale fish, that we found the hero of the day to be the malwani chicken, only by grace of elimination, mind you, in the matter that it was atleast edible among the rest of the unplatable fare. For a restaurant that spends so much money advertising itself, it should have spent some on its fresh seafood as well.
O Fish, Oh well.. no thanks,...
