We went to Pestle Experience for lunch and I was stung by a poisonous insect that fell from the dirty tent overhead. Within minutes, I developed a severe rash and went into histamine shock. What made it worse was that the staff did nothing, even when they saw a guest in serious distress. We were left to manage the emergency on our own, and only because one of our friends was a doctor did the situation not turn life-threatening.
Beyond this, the setup itself is unsafe:
The tent looked unclean, with cobwebs, spiders, and mosquitoes everywhere.
No mosquito-killing lamps, just a small fan blowing on the food.
Food was brought uncovered in the drizzle, risking dirty rainwater falling on it.
The handwash area was filthy and the approach path dangerously slippery.
No valid food safety or health certificates were displayed.
For a place charging twice the price of other Alibaug restaurants, this is unacceptable. If you are not keen on dining in the presence of insects crawling or falling around you, don’t come here. This is dining, not “Man vs Wild.”
The food itself might be average to good, but when customer safety is ignored, nothing else matters.
If you value your health, please avoid Pestle Experience.
👉 To be fair: we were quite late for our booking, and the staff did adjust to accommodate us. We appreciated that. But what happened afterward was unsafe, unhygienic, and completely unacceptable.
Before you sit down here, check:
Are food & safety certificates displayed clearly?
Is the tent above you clean, without cobwebs or insects?
Is the washbasin clean and accessible?
Is your food covered when carried out in rain?
Are there mosquito-control...

I walked in with zero expectations as my friend had booked a few tables for us and kept us in dark for a surprise and what a hidden gem this turned out to be, and what a mind blowing surprise it was!
The setup is rustic and minimal, like a sweet village outpost right in Alibaug. By the time I got to the table, plates started arriving hot and fresh from the kitchen just meters away, while it was pouring outside, every bite felt like pure joy.
The food? Absolutely unmatched. Real, soulful Maharashtrian cuisine, fantastic seafood, regional specialties, all with that rich, homegrown flavor you usually find only in villages. Some standout items: prawns, fish, chicken, mutton even veg items, in short every dish tasted deeply authentic, bursting with rustic goodness. Am sure we tried everything from their menu, from nonveg thalis to veg thali to each items available.
I think they grow their own vegetables, cause the freshness and richness in the ingredients are unmatched.
The staff was also so warm and friendly, they took care of us like we were their family.
Dessert was delightful too, though I could barely move after the mains!
If you're in Alibaug and craving authentic local flavors in a charming setup, don't miss this place. Highly recommend, it's an experience in every sense. A huge shout-out to the Paisley Experience team, you nailed it! I’m definitely coming back just for this. Can't recommend this place enough. It's an experience.
Oh did i mention we were lucky to share our spot with a lovely dog and her puppies. Yes this place is pet...

I had been interested in trying their seasonal, local Maharashtrian food for a long while. I've ordered it once (to a hotel in Alibaug), but I'd recommend visiting in person so you can eat it fresh. The surroundings are peaceful, though the decor is basic. We hung around for a while afterwards, and everyone was very sweet and non-intrusive.
The main event - the food. I really appreciate that they let you customise your that (thali) with items of your choice. I was keen on some seasonal specials, which they included in the same price. My favourites were the unusual mango dishes kairichi amti and kairicha pithla. Ordered the ghavane again, it's yum to eat with any dish. The free papad with masala and achar is also delicious. My companion loved the tarlela mutton. I am quite excited by their menu (especially the seasonal ones) which go beyond the regular Maharashtrian restaurant items in Mumbai. Hope to visit again!
Note: Please pre order so they can source and...
