Saltt. A farmhouse restuarant in Karjat which is worth the drive from Mumbai & pune. A charming and rustic restuarant located at oleander farms offers a refreshing dining experience on the outskirts of the city.
If somone had told me to travel to Karjat just for a meal I would find a reason to escape or delay the plan as we get everything in mumbai. That was my 2020 thought.
2021 is different from the world we left behind in 2020. If there's one thing that i need, then it's certainly a safe fulfilling experience of a home away from home.
As soon as I stepped into the world of oleander farms in Karjat. I was transported to a different world, with every step I was taking I was feeling " Here is something special which they are building ".
Saltt - a restuarant and bar with an access to sprawling great outdoors within the city reach but the calm of the soothing green landscape. A farm restuarant embracing the natural ambiance and luxury of an open comforting space at oleander farms.
Offering a picturesque surrounding of a lake side as well as a hill top view, the restuarant offers the right gateway experience for anyone looking to escape from the city for a short while.
The experience is feast for your eyes and ears ad you gleam through the romantic, soft countryside view and sound.
Before I dive in and tell you more about saltt and it's food, I would like you to experience the place via my words.
The farm spread over many acres has an vintage car collection section where they have cars which were once driven by famous personalities like MF Hussain, They have a play area for kids where the kids can enjoy their time while their parents are enjoying the property. They also have a petting zoo where you can play with fluffy rabits , iguanas , cockatoo and hedgehogs to name a view.
When it comes to the tastefully done interiors, Saltt leaves no stone unturned, the interiors is mainly done up using wood procured from the farms. The interiors are done up in such a way that you get a stunning 360 degree view of the property while dinning which gives you a very homely feel. I got so lost in saltt experience that for once I thought I was sitting in my living room with my friends and we are dinning and sipping on some well made cocktails.
While the ambience gives you a very homely and old world feel, the food is modern and makes your stomach full but your soul still craves for more, as the experience is so unique you don't wish to end it.
The cuisines they play around with are pretty glocal, they have something for every palate. If you wish to eat European cuisine. They have it. You want Pan Asian. They have you covered there also. Indian and street style food ? They have you covered there also. The multi cuisine menu gives you the opportunity to try out a variety of dishes.

Read moreI would had given 5 stars to the beautiful place unfortunately it didn't meet our expectations due to the following reasons mentioned below. The 2 stars given is only due to the beauty of the place as restaurant service, no Corona precautions and the food has disappointed me. If that is improvised, this place deserves 5 stars.
Let's start with the cons first:
Cons: No temperature check done. So, anyone was just walking in which in this Covid times is a threat. Had to wait for almost 10-15 mins to get a table inspite of doing a reservation. The tables and chairs were not sanitized after every use of the customer. We sanitized the place with our sanitizer spray. Service was extremely slow or negligible. We had to call the captain for the order, for the order placed, for the tissue paper, for the water, for the drinks. So, for basic things too we had to wait, call and remind the captain or the waiter many a times. When complained, the reason given was that the restaurant was full. (I don't think so that's my issue as due to this you might loose many customers). Food was mediocre, no grande taste as such. The only thing which stand distinct is the Mutton Galauti Kababs and the chocolate mousse. We had also ordered, Butter chicken, Dal makhani and plain naans. Butter chicken and Dal makhani tasted below average. I believe the restaurant should have the chef making tasty food for every ethnic if it's given on the menu rather than just specific. Sanitizers were not placed as much as required as per Covid precautionary protocols. The article which I read in news stated that the restaurant idea emerged during lockdown and the idea was implemented to convert the farmhouse into a restaurant. Seeing the fact that idea erupted in Covid times, there was lack of Covid precautions taken. The washrooms should had sensor taps, sensored soap dispensers too so that multiple usage to open and shut the tap would had been avoided. The menu card provided was all the same, going to different hands and then just placed as it is on another table to the customer. That too we sanitized it with the anti germs wipes we carried.
Recommendation: The restaurant should had used barcode scanner menu and payment system which is touchfree rather than the traditional menu book method.
Seeing the upclass and sophisticated place, this Hotel is not able to meet the Covid precautionary criteria. It's a threat to the customers and also to the staff. Vintage cars collection area was locked, so I believe they should have a see through glass so that the cars don't get overpowered by the reflection of the garden and customers are able to see and adore them. I had ordered fruity mixology juice and the glass provided looked very very mediocre. I felt like having street size sugarcane juice or a cutting chai glass as shown in the movies. (Wasn't happy at all with the glass but the juice tasted fine).
I am not going there again at this Covid times seeing the lack of measures taken. Will plan and visit the place when Covid threat goes away.
Pros: Nature's beauty: Beautiful place filled with the colorful flowers, variety of fish swimming on the artificial pond. The animals kept like the 2 iguanas, Rabbits are attraction for kids. Kids playing area, vintage cars collection. The lovely decorated trees with cute bottle lightings in them are major selfie zone.
Washroom: Washroom had an attendant all the time to take care of the hygiene and she was doing her job well. The washrooms are thoughtfully designed, there is a wooden spacious table to sit on or to keep your bags on. Arrangement of tissue paper is nicely done, nice big mirrors to get your full view. Also, there is a shower area in case if someone wants to freshen up. Parking space: Ample of parking space. Ample of space to walk.
Recommendation: To create more shady areas to avoid walking in the exposed sun and...
Read moreWe visited this place after my friends saw their Instagram and how people were praising it. The pics posted looked amazing so me along with my wife and my other two friends with their wives visited this place to celebrate new year. We travelled from Mumbai so it took us almost 2 hours to reach here. As soon as we reached we had our first issue. We got down at the turning where they have vintage cars and wines, a security guy showed up (Nepali guys) this guy was smelling like he had taken a bath in Desi alcohol. Our driver asked if he can park infront or need to go out for parking. This security guy replies saying âcanât you readâ like he is the owner of this place. We complained and rubbed this issue off and moved a head.
We had outdoor seating. Once we entered we liked the ambience and the general surroundings. Unfortunately this was just the start of our poor experience. We had a guy come to us who had no knowledge of the menu and was running to ask the manager. The server was changed. We were told to wait for a couple of mins and the server will be back, however, we waited for atleast 15mins. My friends wife got angry and complained to one of the employees. A server came to us, guess his name was Mahesh. Took our order and went. We ordered wine bottle which was kept infront of us on the counter but was not served. Once served we asked for additional glass to drink wine and that came after 10mins.
Now comes the most disappointing part of our visit. We were six people out of that 2 are vegetarians. We 4 ordered - Cajun Chicken Pizza and Honey Chicken and the other 2 friends who are veg ordered Lotus stem and honey glazed potato fries. Us non veg folks got our order but canât say the same about our veg counterparts. After waiting for 30mins we asked our server (Mahesh) and his response was to wait 10mins as the lotus stem takes time. We waited and asked again after 10mins we got the same response. 1 hour later my friend asked the waiter again and this time the response was âmadam todha patience rakho Mai abhi toh bola time lagegaâ - this was so rude and pathetic from the waiter. As soon as this happened the senior captain (Yasin) who was nearby heard this and removed the server (Mahesh) from our table. Yasin who was very polite and super kind told us straight up that they are yet to start the preparations for lotus stem (mind you this is after 1hour of us placing the order) so I asked him if that is the case then why havenât they served the potato fries which we had ordered? I told him that this is not a good look for Saltt and the service they provide. It looked like they deliberately wouldnât serve veg food. After ordering food and wine at 11:30 am my friends who had ordered veg food after having 2 glass of wine on empty stomach finally got their food delivered at 1:05pm. But then comes another issue. We had before ordering food had asked them not to put ginger in veg item as my friends wife is super allergic to it but to our surprise they put ginger to the potato fries item which they ordered. So apparently the cook messed up there and they removed this item from our final bill. Yasin was very helpful in all this and very transparent about the issues. I would suggest the owner to keep hold of Yasin and ask him to train the other servers on how to be polite, helpful and be patient with customers.
I have no complaints on how the food tasted as it was very good but the service was the worst I have seen anywhere. After travelling 2 hours to enjoy New Yearâs Day with loved ones, we expected a very lovely time but did not get it. Spending 16k here was not worth it. Glad we removed the service tax from the bill. Please improve your service and show respect to customers next time. Also, if you canât prepare food in less then 30mins then pls have that item removed from the menu.
Sorry to say but would not recommend this place to anyone -...
