"Simple is Beautiful" - the words written at their service counter/reception convey their intent right away. Hidden in a bit of wilderness, yet very close to the coastal town of Alibaug is a gem of culinary place - Suju's Art Cafe and Home Stay. I came across it during my Google search for good, authentic food and it turned out to be one amongst the best.
Started nearly 10 years ago by a Mumbaikar civil engineer from IIT, his wife and daughter, the place houses a cafe as well as facility for home stay. The place is only a few kms drive from Alibaug, nestled amidst solitude and greenery. The cafe is open from 8.30 am to 6 pm and predominantly serves Maharashtrian snacks, apart from mini meals, sandwiches and beverages.
As far as our visit is concerned, every single dish we had was extremely well made. Alu wadi, Peri Peri French fries, Puri bhaaji, Sabudana wada, Veg Coleslaw sandwich, Thalipeeth, Passion Fruit juice (they grow the fruit in their farms), Kokum juice and finally Coffee Tart - all were delicious and made with just the right amount of everything. Rarely does one order so much variety and not find an ioata to complain about a single one, including the pricing.
The owners (Mr.Shekhar and his wife, who is a Homeopathy doctor) were extremely courteous. We were given a tour of their property, which seem to have nice, clean rooms and a 5 bedroom villa. Many of the vegetables & fruits are grown in their farm, amidst which these rooms are nestled. Our short visit to this quaint cafe sure turned out to be a...

Read moreThis quaint little artistic café, set in a homely natural surrounding, definitely needs a shout out!! I simply fell in love with the decor - the various arts pieces that were displayed are worth a mention - beautifully handmade. This café, true to its name has a room dedicated to immersing yourself in art & me-time. Sujata, the artist owner, was so very sweet to oblige to every small request my 10 yrs old made. It was indeed very nice of her to even display his art on their refrigerator :-)...just showcases the warmth you have for your customers. Would have loved to meet the engineer owner, her dad too! Guess some things are to be left for next times. Now, coming to the food - we were there around breakfast time so we ordered the Thalipeeth, sabudana vada, poha and kokum juice....all of it was made with love and its was truly yummy. In the process, we over ate :-D If you are in Mandwa and are looking for a warm, cozy place to hang around, that has great service & food, you must not miss going to SUJU'S ARTCAFE. You...
