Overpriced, Tasteless Food and Indifferent Staff – Extremely Disappointed

As usual one more third grade roadside predator of Vitthal Kamat outlets. Tourists flock here seeing the name Kamat. That's it.

I had an extremely unpleasant experience at this Vitthal Kamat outlet during my journey from Pune to Kolhapur. I was on the lookout for a light and healthy breakfast option, and being a long-time traveller, I trusted the Vitthal Kamat brand would serve something decent like upma. Unfortunately, I was in for a major disappointment.

The upma served was utterly tasteless, soggy, and lacked even basic flavor. I couldn’t even finish half of it — something that has never happened before, especially when I’m hungry. For this substandard dish, I was charged an absurd ₹75, which is completely unjustified for the quality.

When I politely brought this to the manager’s attention while paying the bill, his response was apathetic at best and defensive at worst. Instead of showing concern or offering any courtesy, he brushed it off with the typical “no one else complained” excuse. This kind of attitude towards feedback is unacceptable, especially from a brand that claims a legacy.

Shockingly, this wasn’t the first time I faced such poor food quality at a Vitthal Kamat outlet. I had a similar experience a few years ago at a different location, and I had hoped things might have improved. Sadly, it appears nothing has changed — the same stale standards, the same dismissive service.

And that’s the problem — for years, Vitthal Kamat has been beating the drum of his so-called "Orchid" ecotel legacy and the book Idli, Orchid and Me. The brand survives on that self-promotional echo. That hype lures new customers into believing they're choosing quality — only to be disappointed. But why should they care? As long as every first-time customer gets fooled once, the business keeps running. Who needs repeat customers when the brand’s past keeps doing the marketing?

To sum it up, this franchise seems to be surviving solely on nostalgia, name-dropping, and roadside monopoly, rather than actual food quality or hospitality. Travellers like us often fall prey to this illusion of legacy and end up paying premium prices for subpar food. A brand that once stood for decent, traditional South Indian fare is now becoming a roadside predator exploiting its past goodwill.

I strongly advise fellow travellers to think twice before stopping here. You...

Vitthal Kamath Restaurant, located on the Pune-Bhor Highway, is a popular dining destination known for its South Indian cuisine. In my experience, I found the South Indian food at this restaurant to be exceptional. The flavors were authentic, and the dishes were well-prepared, making it a must-visit for South Indian food enthusiasts.

However, it's worth noting that the restaurant may be a bit overrated. While the food quality is commendable, some might argue that the hype surrounding it is slightly exaggerated. Nevertheless, the service provided by the staff is top-notch. They are attentive, friendly, and ensure that your dining experience is enjoyable.

One of the standout features of Vitthal Kamath is the availability of free parking. This is a significant advantage, especially for travelers passing through or stopping for a meal. It eliminates the hassle of finding parking and adds to the convenience of dining here.

In terms of pricing, the rates are reasonable and decent for the quality of food and service you receive. It offers good value for your money, making it accessible to a wide range of customers.

In conclusion, Vitthal Kamath Restaurant on the Pune-Bhor Highway offers a delightful South Indian dining experience. While it may be considered slightly overrated by some, the excellent service, free parking, and reasonable rates make it a worthwhile stop for those craving authentic South...

I recently visited this hotel and overall, the experience was decent. The quality of food was good, fresh, and tasty, and the service was also acceptable. However, one major disappointment was with their tea service. They charge ₹30 for a single cup of tea, which is understandable if the service and presentation match the price. But instead of serving in a proper cup and saucer, they provide it in disposable cups, which feels very unprofessional and disheartening. For a reputed hotel, such a small detail leaves a negative impression. Improving this would really enhance the overall customer experience.

I visited this outlet for a breakfast during my drive from pune to goa. They have good amount of parking space, but there is no one to manage it so sometimes people end up blocking the exit. Toilets are very clean which is big plus. Service is super fast, it was very crowded then also we got our order quickly under 5 minutes. But there are flies on the table so management needs to fix that. From food perspective we had upma, wada sambhar , plain dosa and tea. Taste wise all were normal nothing extra ordinary, but everything except the dosa was expensive. Wada was low on salt as well.

On my way to Kolhapur we stopped at Vithal Kamat for breakfast. Its very spacious . They have 25 tables. They have a good variety of food. We ordered idli wada, masala dosa , onion uttapa , tea and coffee. Everything was tasty. Coffe wasn't that great though. There are 3 small shops outside the premises. They sell household small items, papad and pickles and chocolate - chips are also available. The have washrooms different for men and women . It was clean. Seemed to be newly done. Staff were warm. They serve proper lunch too.
