Wanted to try something different so we ordered the big steamed Bao/dumpling (forgot the name). It had this pungent smell of cloth that was soaked in rain and air dried. When we asked the waiter he said it’s the “normal smell” of their dumpling and that’s how they make it. I may not be the best cook but I know for sure that it’s the cloth they use to wrap the steamer that wasn’t washed for a long time, that by the time they served us it was smelling like an old worn out banyan kenji of a rickshaw walla.
