I initially had a good experience with Charlie's Kitchen, but after my latest order, I can confidently say they have lost me as a customer for good.
One day, I was craving biryani and went to my regular spot, only to find out they didn’t have dum biryani that day. Since I had already tried almost every biryani option in Bhanjanagar and was unimpressed, I decided to give Charlie's Kitchen a shot based on recommendations from relatives. I went for takeaway, ordering biryani and a gravy dish. The food was decent—not extraordinary, but acceptable by Bhanjanagar's standards. However, what really stood out to me was their ambiance, service, and behavior. Even though I walked in wearing just a t-shirt and track pants, they treated me with respect, something I don’t always experience at other places where I’ve been judged based on my attire. This initial good experience made me think I could become one of their regular customers.
But yesterday, they completely ruined that impression. I decided to try their delivery service, and while their service was fine, the food was an absolute disaster. I called to place an order, and they informed me that non-veg items weren’t available due to the Danda Yatra festival. That was fine, so I ordered some veg dishes: 3 butter naans, 3 veg tadkas, 2 mushroom chillis, and 6 whole wheat rotis. The total bill, including delivery, came to an outrageous 770 rupees.
Now, let's talk about what I got for that ridiculous price. First, the rotis—priced at 10 rupees each—were burnt to a crisp. They were literally blackened, resembling something you’d find in a trash bin rather than on a plate. My mother described them as "leather," and honestly, she was being generous. Then there were the butter naans—what a joke! Not only were they undercooked, but I couldn’t taste or even smell any trace of butter. They were doughy and raw inside, making them inedible.
The veg tadka was equally disgusting. I paid 80 rupees for each portion, and what I received was an unappetizing mess that looked and smelled like it had been sitting out for hours, if not days. The consistency itself screamed "stale." If I had left it outside for two hours, I’m sure it would’ve turned completely rotten. No freshness, no flavor, just a sad, pathetic excuse for food.
The only slightly acceptable dish was the mushroom chilli, but even that was overpriced at 180 rupees for a tiny portion. And I mean tiny. Given the price, I expected at least a decent serving size, but what I got was laughable. The same issue applied to the other dishes—overpriced and pathetically small portions.
I’ve dined at actual three-star hotels where the pricing is similar, but the quality and quantity are leagues ahead of what Charlie's Kitchen offers. I can accept slightly high prices if the food justifies it, but what I cannot and will not tolerate is stale, poorly cooked, low-quality food that isn’t fit to eat. It’s not even a question of them being capable of doing better because my first experience with them showed they can provide decent food. This time, however, they completely dropped the ball, and I refuse to waste my money on such garbage again.
I would have given them one another star for their past service and ambiance, but at the end of the day, a restaurant is about the food. If the food is trash, everything else is meaningless. I will not be returning, and I strongly advise others to think twice before wasting their...

Read moreFantastic decor and ambience , especially for a small place like Bhanjanagar . The food is surprisingly good , I mean I certainly didn't expect it to go this way . This is undoubtedly the best restaurant in Bhanjanagar . My only problem with the restaurant was with the waiting staff - their inept communication skills in Hindi , confusion regarding the order , unfamiliarity with cutlery and no clue as to when to provide them . Although , they more than made up for it by being friendly and approachable to the best of...
