The Clay Kitchen | Budharaja — Restaurant in Odisha

My family and I have been regular visitors of Clay Kitchen (now also operating with the name Downtown Diner) for quite some time. Over the years, this restaurant has held a special place in our dining list because of its unique recipes, cozy ambience, and especially its starters and desserts. In the past, we often raved about their falooda and vegetarian starters, which used to be exceptional.

However, during our most recent visit, we noticed a clear shift in the overall food quality compared to earlier experiences. Here is an honest breakdown of what we ordered: • Sweet Corn Soup: Pleasant and decent in taste—nothing extraordinary, but satisfying. • Dahi Kabab: Good and enjoyable, maintaining a familiar flavor and texture. • Veg Hara Bara Kabab: Unfortunately, this dish was a disappointment. The taste and freshness were far from expectations and did not reflect the standard we had once come to love. • Falooda: This used to be one of my absolute favorites here. In earlier visits, it stood out for its richness and balanced flavors, but this time it lacked the same magic.

While it’s wonderful to see the restaurant expanding—a clear sign of growth and popularity—it feels as though the focus on quality and consistency is being compromised in the process. Of course, this is a personal observation, but as someone who has been visiting since its earlier days, the difference...

We personally booked the private lounge after reviewing everything 8-9 days in advance. One of the staff members was coordinating with us, but at the last moment—when the actual date arrived—he didn't answer our phone calls or respond to our messages. With no other option, we had to go to Clay Kitchen at the last minute, and there was nothing we could do.

Decoration – They charged ₹500 for the decoration, but it was the worst decoration imaginable. It's not about the money, but at the very least, they should have the capability to meet customer expectations. However, all they seemed to care about was the money.

Environment – The environment was good, but the staff was a major disappointment. Their attitude and behavior were simply unacceptable.

Food – The food was decent, but for the price, it was not satisfying at all. They served one falooda, and the waiter handed it directly without even serving it on a plate. The way they offered the food was...

The experience was so bad. Though ambience was nice but the food quality and taste are not good. We have ordered for tikka masala they have made butter masala. After asking manager for tikka masala they have took our half eaten butter masala and converted that to tikka masala that too taste so bad. Which restaurant takes already eaten food to their kitchen and used to put that in kadia for cooking again. After that they might have cooked other items in same kadai. Worst customer experience and good. U need to ask for menu multiple times because they will just provide you menu once while ordering something than they will again take it back. Bad customer experience.
