We 8 friends visited this restaurant on Friday. There was a B'day party already going on. Besides us and the B'day party, 5 to 6 tables were also being served.
Let's start with the food first. The taste of any edible is a subjective matter and depends on person to person. So some people may not agree with me.
They tried hard to serve us their best, but we didn't like the food at all. The chef/cook and the owner, fails to understand the taste buds of local Barmer/marwadi people. I believe they are trying hard to reach a certain different taste or level, but in my opinion they should get back to basics. The very basic principle of cooking is, the cook must cook the food as per the guest's taste. Most marwadi prefer spicy taste over sweetness.
I don't remember all the items that we ordered, but I'll try to give my honest opinion on every item
Tomato soup: It could be more concentrated and spice level should have been on higher side Cheese burst Pizza: It wasn't cheese burst at all. More or less it looked and tasted like any other vegetable pizza with cheese on it. Paneer Tikka: It was nice but could be better Soya Chap: I don't remeber whether it was malai chaap or something else. I had tasted the chaap the very first time, so may be this could be the reason why I didn't like this. Some others had eaten this in Jaipur and Delhi. They told us it wasn't what it must taste like. They went even further by saying "This is the reason why Soya Chaap fails in Barmer" Masala Papad: This was nice. Paneer lababdar: It was very sweet. We hated it. Malai Kofta: I think Kofta was made of Khoya. It was also very sweet. So as expected we didn't like this either. Some soya chaap item: Again, I was eating it for the first time. I didn't like it at all. Pulav: It was tasty. The rice grains weren't sticky. It tasted best in the all items. Missi Roti: It was good. Tandoori Roti: Only cold roties were being served. Only once we got hot roties. It was not so good either. Naan: I didn't had any but those who had some, said it was nice. Buttermilk: Again, I didn't had any. Those who had some, didn't comment on the quality. Momos: They didn't serve this even after taking the order. At last when they realised, we refused to accept and asked them not to cook it.
Service: In my opinion the service was very lousy. But again, it could be due to the ongoing B'day party. The staff didn't bring our order at time. Noone paid any attention to our table at all. At some point we waited around 10 minutes just for water. A friend had requested for some cumin seeds. It was brought to us, when almost everyone had drunk their buttermilk. It too was after ordering for 3-4 times. No fingle bowl was provided to clear our finger tips. They ignored us so bad that we could leave from their without paying our bill, and wouldn't have any idea that we had left. The waiting staff were exhausted/frustrated. Even after that, they didn't misbehaved with us. It was commendable.
Atmosphere: The only good thing about this restaurant is their ambience. It's a roof top restaurant, so the view from here is nice. Indoor area was also designed well. I will come back only for this reason.
Will I go here again? Yes, but only for their atmosphere. I give priority to ambience over taste. But some other people might not.
Suggestions to the owner: Make it a 'Real fine dining restaurant'. This taste goes well only with this kind of service. Assign a waiting staff to one table only and he should explain the items like it's a very delicate and exclusive cuisine. Add some spices in your food. Chef should visit Kuber restaurant or VIP restaurant. Speak with their team and learn from their mistakes. Even VIP had some taste issues in the beginning. Later they understood the problem, and resolved it. Price should be kept a little lower in...
┬а┬а┬аRead moreWe recently visited ZOCA in Barmer on March 20, 2025, and had a pleasant experience. Although the food was decent, we provided feedback on the Kashmiri Dum Aloo, suggesting improvements to the gravy's taste profile. The chef took our comments constructively and invited us to return.
We revisited on March 22, 2025, and were impressed by the exceptional quality of the dishes we ordered: Tomato soup, Peri peri soya chaap, Aloo mutter, boondi raita, and Dhal fry. The Aloo mutter and boondi raita stood out as exceptional.
We'd like to express our gratitude to Mr. Chandan and his team for their attentive service and to Chef Manoj for his outstanding culinary skills. The ZOCA team in Barmer demonstrated excellent hospitality.
We highly recommend ZOCA as a must-visit vegetarian...
