MasterChef of India – Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Mumbai

MasterChef of Kolkata – Chef Alladin, Garia

We, the people of Kolkata are lazy foodies. We crave for quality Afghani cuisines as well as Mughlai cuisines and Biryani at the same time. We also dream of having Kebabs for starters followed by rich North Indian cuisines in the same meal. The same foodie actually craves for Rolls once it’s 5 in the evening – but is reluctant to travel to 10 different places for all the above!

So, what’s the solution to a problem this big - a MULTI-MULTI cuisine restaurant offering “Hukum Korlei Haajir” services - it’s CHEF ALLADIN, serving almost a dozen cuisines under a single roof – a cute little delivery cum take away cum dine-in restaurant based nearby the Shaheed Khudiram Metro station.

The restaurant might be small but is well organized, clear demarcation exists between the kitchen, the delivery counter as well as the air-conditioned dine-in. Ambience is well maintained and is comparable to other fine dining restaurants in Kolkata.

Since we were pretty hungry, hence we went on a gorging spree of the below mentioned delicacies:-

(i) Pan tossed Babycorn Mushroom – A mix of crispy as well as soft babycorn pieces pan tossed along with mushrooms and sauces, topped with sesame seeds – not to forget the spring onion garnish, couldn’t have asked for a better starter!

(ii) Veg Chilli Garlic Hakka noodles – You get a strong and pleasant aroma of garlic as well as chilly if you go for this! This noodle palate is more of an amalgamation of chopped onions, carrots, capsicums (both yellow and green), spring onions, cabbage and what not – more suited for the ones inclined towards something healthy. Pro tip would be using thinner / finer variety noodles for preparation!

(iii) Veg Singapore Fried Rice – The show stopper of the day, 1k salutes to the chef who prepared it! The red chilly topping awards a smoky pungent note to the dish! Rice well cooked on low flame with chef’s choice vegetables – even the last morsel of it was hot.

(iv) Paneer in Chilli Oyster Sauce with Caramalized Cashew nuts – An Oriental dish prepared the Chinese way – Indigenous cottage cheese cubes – overly delicate and sliced to perfection and cooked in oyster sauce as well as other Chinese sauces along with numerous other chopped veggies. The hero of the dish would be the caramalized cashew nuts, which impart it the much-desired crunchy punch!

(v) Babycorn Mushroom Hupak Style – Since we were so impressed by the babycorn mushroom starter as well as the caramalized nuts, we requested a fusion dish imparting the USP of both these dishes. Hence, the Babycorn Mushroom was prepared and served to us in Hupak style – which counts as 1 of the best Chinese dishes I ever had!

(vi) Kesari Matka Malai – A Chinese meal would generally end with some darsaan with ice cream, but that not being on the menu, we went for their kesari matka malai! And much to our surprise, we were overjoyed with our decision as we could not have ended on a sweeter note! The kesar essence drop completely adores the earthern pot filled with tasty ice cream with a fusion of dry fruits!

Don't miss out on ordering a pepsi or two as a person on a strict diet would also end up eating much much more than his diet and would need an appetiizer in form of a soft drink!

All in all, Chef Alladin does not only tickle your taste buds, but your sweet tooth as well! No reservations with respect to portion size, food quality, food presentation and of course, service!

Pocket pinch for two would hardly cost you a 500 Re Gandhi but would be worth more than an experience worth a 2000 Re Gandhi – if you know what I mean!

Can’t wait to visit again – this time to regale myself with their North...

If you rub the magic lamp of Aladdin you get three wishes. Here at Chef Alladin the Genie offers you 3 dream wishes of a foodie. 1. Quality food, 2. Uncompromised quantity, 3. Affordable price. Finding all of this combination now a days isn’t just hard, its near to impossible in most of the restaurant.

Location : From Shahid Khudiram Metro Station you can take an Auto and ask to drop you at Alladin. Yes, this place is that well known in its locality.

Ambiance : Attempting mostly delivery and selling rolls, they’ve roadside open kitchen counter. Still somehow they’ve managed a very small AC dining that is maintained quite well.

Food : They offer Indian, Chinese, Rolls, Momos and many more. We spent Sunday afternoon having a wonderful lunch at Chef Alladin. Below are some of my personal recommend dishes…

Crispy Chilly Shrimps (5/5) : It was the first item that I tasted here and it was undoubtedly the best starter to choose. Crispy and juicy pieces sautéed with green chilli, onions and Chinese sauces somehow made it taste incredibly awesome. Its a must have dish here.

Shahi Roasted Tengri (4.5/5) : One of the most loveable dish by non vegetarians, they make Tandoori Chicken in different way. They mix Tandoori chicken with added spices and fried onions, that gives it their signature style of taste and that is quite likeable.

Special Chicken and Mutton Biryani (4.5/5) : The Badshahi experience starts here. They serve special Biryani with two giant pieces of Chicken or Mutton. Well soft, well cooked and well spicy that we mostly love about Indian food. High grain rice mixed with brownish fried onions served with a huge potato and an egg too. Not only the quantity the taste also amazed me quite well.

Mutton Korma (4.5/5) : A high spicy preparation of mutton cooked in high flame making red textured dark gravy of the dish. Mutton pieces again soft and well cooked, finally served in well garnished condition.

Pricing : This is where they’re killing it. Quantity and quality they serve for the price, its 110% justified.

Conclusion : I’ve been to hundreds of restaurants till now, but Chef Alladin is one of my favourite kind of restaurant. If you have gone through the whole review, Do I still need to convince you to visit...

worst experience ever... got egg shell in momo.. after complaining the owner seemed to b not bothered at all.... its just doing business becoz of the location............

Reply to the answer from the respectable and too defensive owner..... Hello Mr. Owner, It's almost 5 years and I hv just landed on this after I got a notification from google. I didn't know that you have already answered. I would have replied if it was given instantly as I was waiting for one fr almost a week. Anyways pls read below: First of all being a customer I have all the rights to review anything and everything I feel like.... You are no Haridas Pal to tell me to take back my words. Secondly I am not the only one who had posted a negative review abt the resto and I can see that you are too defensive on all reviews. Just an advice - try to take the reviews positively and work on making things better. I have seen no restaurant or eateries who counter attack their customer. Thirdly, yes I will still say that you are doing business because of the location and for the absence of any worthy competitors in the area. The quality of the food has deteriorated rapidly over the years. I use to like it initially as I know when it started and fyi I am also a local and a resident for more than 40+ years sir. I perhaps was one of the first customers. Fourthly and finally- you, your staffs, your cashier etc may deny that you guys didn't get any such complains. That's your privilege. I am not making millions posting just two lines of what has happened and it makes me laugh to find that you think it's forced or fake. I understand what you are trying to portray here Mr. owner :) And pretending to find the logic behind finding an egg shell in a momo... I guess you will find the answer if you as an owner keep an eye on the root level as well rather than just counting on the cash you receive. You know why restaurant like Arsalan, Shiraz, Haji Ali etc are so successful and has multiple outlets and still growing? Because they give priority to the customers complains and quality unlike you being rude and obnoxious to them. I will now think twice. Remember... It takes months or years to gain a customer but seconds to lose one....

I had been to Chef Alladin yesterday to taste their Jumbo Roll. Now there are pros and cons to the restaurant and the dish which i am enlisting below. Pros 1. The roll is indeed huge 2. There are lots of filling Cons 1. The preparation time is very long. Its not that we didn’t want to wait but it is a fact that by the time the roll is fully prepared, the roll is cold. As a result, you are chewing rubbery flour. 2. The filling has a lot of potato and soya chunks in it which spoils the taste 3. When you spend close to 500 rs. on a dish, it is expected that a seat will be given in their AC restaurant. Its ok to eat a normal sized roll costing say 60 bucks outside on the street, but eating a jumbo roll on the street without a plate, in kolkata heat and humidity,is very difficult. We pointed out that all youtube reviewers are given a seat in their AC restaurant and they are all eating the jumbo rolls from a dish but we were politely refused. A person having biryani by spending lesser bucks will get a seat but not a jumbo roll eater. Overall, i would say that the jumbo roll is overhyped. Edit: response after owner comment: Dear Sir, you can do whatever you want to do with your restaurant and customer. I have seen many negative reviews here itself and your response to those comments are always the same, which is justifying your premises’ shortcomings. But as a customer, i also feel it that its is my duty to give correct and appropriate reviews. This is the reason i have mentioned both pros and cons. Rest is upto you, that is , whether you want to improve or carry on with whatever that you are doing. But yes, the three of us won’t be returning customers, thats for sure.
