Ambur Star Biryani – A Century of Subtle Splendor
Dined at Ambur Star Biryani, a name that carries the weight of tradition since 1890. The mutton biryani was a quiet revelation. At first glance, it appeared unassuming, almost pale, but each spoonful told a story steeped in time. The rice was fragrant, the flavours refined, and the mutton was exquisitely tender, yielding with the gentlest touch. It was a masterclass in restraint, letting the ingredients speak softly yet profoundly.
The accompanying raita and brinjal curry were humble but harmonious companions, elevating the meal without drawing too much attention to themselves.
The ambience, though bustling with life, lacked comfort. The warmth from the crowd and the food outmatched the cooling, leaving the air heavy. It didn’t take away from the meal but gently nudged the experience off balance.
Ventured beyond the biryani with a pepper leg piece and a chicken Chettinadu gravy. The former was firm and forgettable, while the latter, though rich in spice, missed the mark with its slightly overcooked chicken. It longed for a flaky bread to meet it halfway but stood alone.
The biryani itself is a ten in every way that matters. With the surroundings and sides factored in, the experience settles at a strong eight. A place where time lingers in the grains of rice, even if the rest...
Read moreMy usual spot while heading back to Chennai via Bangalore vellore highway. Nevertheless they serve the best briyani and the oldest one in the city. Bit difficult to find for new people who wanna choose this but yeah once found ull get the best briyani during your drive!
Ordered briyani, fried rice, egg Curry. Everything was great except the portion of food but still felt okay since we shared the foods.
AC needs to be serviced, looks too old and less cooling. This needs to be improved. And table cleaning is not as great compared to my previous visit. Hope this will be corrected during my upcoming visits.
Food and service is great 👍 and they assist in parking car outside their hotel which makes our job easy to park the cars. A tight roadside parking and becomes difficult due to ongoing road works, rest is perfect.
Overall a good tasty briyani experience on the way to Chennai. Try their shop once and you'll hold on everytime u travel...
Read moreHonestly. It reminded me of a good muslim-wedding biriyani from Bangalore. All the glory that the online people sing about it has nothing to do with the taste. There are caterers in Bangalore who make tastier biriyani than this. However I gave it a four star because it has a legacy and the staff behaves very well. No regrets. Good dinner. Rahmaniya also serves similar Biriyani. What's fascinating is, the stories surrounding who's the authentic one. When you visit. Take a casual walk in that service road and talk to the locals. You'll be amused to get a 50-50 vote for star n rahmaniya. Both hotels being loved and supported equally by the local people. A very energizing enviornment. And a whole lot of other benefits adds bliss to the biriyani experience. Star or Rahmaniya. Biriyani from Ambur is yum. But Bangalore caterers are...
