First of all, I chose this restaurant because I am a big fan of Aswins sweets and Savories. Bought a big list of sweets, savories and mixes from their store near Central bus stand, Trichy before starting to Chennai, because I was not too sure about stopping at Aswins restaurant on the highway for lunch.
We had the chance to stop at the highway restaurant near Perambalur at around 3:30PM, which is neither the lunch not dinner time. May be due to that reason, most of the items were not offered when we sat in a table. Most of the tables in the AC dining room were vacant, so we got a table quickly.
Very limited items on offer, so we ordered chappathi and Parotta for all 4 of us. The dishes were really fresh and tasty the Kuruma which came with the dishes were good too. The raitha was thick and fresh.
The atmosphere was just okay. Cleanliness can improve a lot, particularly in the wash area. Most of the cleaning staff were standing idle or chit chatting, while the wash basin was in a flooded and dirty condition. They can do some cleaning there more often. Tables were cleaned after we requested, which can be done more proactively too.
I found a store manager in the Aswins store in Trichy, but not in the restaurant, which is much bigger. I think appointing someone in-charge of this place will help improve it.
We accessed the rest rooms after the food and the rooms were neat and clean, which is very good and very rare in highway restaurants.
Overall, I find this place worth for the price I paid, Rs. 355 for 4 sets of chappathi/parotta. Very cheap, probably they can increase the price a little and invest that money to improve the atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place for the quality of their food but would want to see improvement in atmosphere and service.
I think Aswins has the potential to capture the veggie restaurant and sweets/savories business vacated by Saravana Bhavan in Chennai, provided they maintain restaurants like this well and capture the market share and expand slowly.
Good luck Aswins and Hoping to see your restaurant in...
Read moreAswins Veg Restaurant in Perambalur has become my go-to stop whenever I travel from Chennai, especially if I start the journey around 4 PM. Conveniently located along the Chennai-Madurai National Highway, this spot offers a perfect pit stop for car travelers looking for a quality vegetarian meal in a clean and accessible setting.
Ambience & Accessibility: The restaurant is easily accessible from the highway and offers ample car parking, which is a big plus for travelers. The premises are clean and well-maintained, and there's a welcoming atmosphere that makes it a comfortable break during long drives.
Food Ordered:
Idly: Served hot and soft, the idlies came with three varieties of chutney and a flavorful sambar. Each accompaniment added its own charm to the dish, making it a satisfying traditional start.
Kaima Parotta: This was a highlight of the meal. The dish stood out with its unique preparation and was perfectly complemented by the kuruma and thayir pachadi. It’s a must-try if you’re looking for something beyond the usual South Indian fare.
Coffee: The filter coffee here is excellent — strong, aromatic, and a great way to wrap up the meal.
The restaurant also has a well-stocked snacks counter where various items are attractively displayed for easy, on-the-go purchase. It's perfect for grabbing a few treats for the road.
Overall Experience: Aswins Veg Restaurant offers a great blend of taste, convenience, and comfort, making it one of the best vegetarian dining options in the vicinity of Perambalur. With good food, quick service, and thoughtful amenities for travelers, it certainly earns high marks as a reliable stopover on the...
Read more7th - Sunday of this month we went to have lunch with family members. Meals was good but following feedback points they need to consider: Paruppu Podi was too salty which was given to have with rice. They should put correct level of salt. Potato poriyal and Koottu not that much delicious. I see mostly on all the hotels they keep on serving potato poriyal. Based on the other vegetable season and if they decide for budget concern they need to decide to consider some other vegetables for poriyal. Example if the gabbage cost is less on a season of month they can consider providing the specific dishes. Sample applicable to kootu. See frequently Payasam as sweet at the lunch menu not only on Aswins and most of the restaurants they provide this. If the reason is for budget concern then they can concern mini badusha, mini jangiri, mini milk sweet. Since Aswins are leading on sweets sales and have a large factory they can provide these type of mini sweets at least instead of providing payasam, sarkarai Pongal and kesari etc. Serving the types of mini sweets and if customers felt delicious will make customers to think and decide to buy sweets as a separate box to take home.
Other than that Sambar, Rasam, Curd, Butter milk was...
