My family and I recently dined at Downtown Diner in Cumbum after spending the afternoon at MSR Grape gardens. Drawn by the high reviews, we were expecting a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, we were met with disappointment upon arrival.
The first thing that struck us was the cleanliness of the establishment, or rather the lack thereof. Flies were buzzing around everywhere, creating an immediate sense of discomfort. This issue persisted throughout our meal, forcing us to constantly swat at them.
We decided to somehow get through it as it was already late afternoon and we were quite hungry.
The food itself was mediocre at best, and the service left much to be desired. Despite our hunger, the overall environment made it challenging to enjoy our meal, and most of us left our food half-eaten.
I'm really perplexed by the high reviews this diner has received, as our experience was far from satisfactory. Unless you find yourself with no other options, I would not recommend dining here. It's a decision we regret, and I hope others will consider this feedback...
Read moreWe visited the Downtown Diner Resort in Cumbum en route to Kerala. We chose the restaurant after seeing the reviews, but unfortunately the review might be applicable for non vegetarian lovers and not for vegetarian preferring people.
It was a complex with common road side parking. Wash room was on back side with a spectacular view of the mountains and grapes garden. The restaurant was moderately clean.
There were 10 tables which could accommodate 40 persons at a time. We ordered Vegetarian meals (Kerala Matta Rice) and Vegetable Biriyani but both were very average. Even with heavy hunger, we couldn't enjoy the food.
Heard that the fish fry in this restaurant will be good and few other customers were enjoying them. Might be we should try with non vegetarian menu in this restaurant...
Read moreIt was around 4 pm on June 04 and we were driving down the Kumily hills. As a family with kids we wanted to have some decent food. While enjoying the Kumily hills we missed our lunch. Kumily a good place to visit. We found this restaurant just at the foothill towards Theni. I prefer to take a step in only if the restaurant is clean and neat. Definitely downtown dinner is one. Enjoyed the tasty authentic Kerala meal and it was served hot at around 4 pm. What we enjoyed was the hospitality and the serving spirit of Mr.Abraham(proprietor)and his family & staffs. You will love the ambience of the restaurant which is a plus and definitely the vineyard view. A homely place to have...
