Murugan Idli Shop – Krishnagiri Highway Pitstop with a Smart Twist
Ambiance & Vibe
Located right on the Krishnagiri highway stretch, Murugan Idli Shop is your classic South Indian veg restaurant with a clean, functional setup. With both AC seating and standard dining, it maintains hygiene standards and neat tables despite the crowd it pulls—especially on weekends.
Unique Concept & Service Style
What truly sets this place apart is its brilliant business idea and unique service model. The moment you’re seated, you’re welcomed with a banana leaf tray and an array of 4 types of chutneys served instantly. While you browse the menu, the real magic happens—staff keep roaming around with trays of must-try dishes, and you simply call them over to serve whatever catches your eye.
This not only speeds up service but also encourages you to try dishes you hadn’t planned for—I didn’t intend to order dosa or sweet pongal, but the look and aroma made it irresistible!
Food & Must-Tries
The highlight is the variety and freshness: • Podi Idli – soft, flavorful, and perfectly coated • Vada & Pongal – hot and comforting • Sweet Pongal – melts in the mouth • Onion Dosa & Paniyaram (Padu) – crisp and addictive
Every item served hot, straight from the kitchen, elevates the experience. The food is simple yet tasty—perfectly fitting for a highway pitstop.
Staff & Efficiency
Despite the crowd, service is super quick once you’re seated. The wait time to get in, especially on weekends, can go beyond 30 minutes, so plan accordingly. That said, the fast-track tray service compensates brilliantly once you’re inside. The staff is proactive and polite—another big win.
Parking & Extras • Self-parking available, but can get tight during peak hours • There’s also a sweets and podi stall inside—ideal for packing some goodies for the road.
Overall Verdict
Rating: 4.5/5 Murugan Idli Shop at Krishnagiri is more than just a pitstop—it’s a well-oiled model of efficient service, great food, and innovative delivery. Don’t miss this if you’re heading toward Chennai or Hosur. The banana leaf + tray service combo is a masterstroke, and it’s totally worth the...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at Murugan Idle Shop
I recently visited Murugan Idle Shop with high hopes of relishing some authentic South Indian cuisine. However, my experience left much to be desired. While the idlis and sweet pongal were satisfactory, the overall quality of the food fell short of my expectations.
First and foremost, the vada served at Murugan Idle Shop was drenched in oil, which significantly affected its taste and texture. It was greasy and lacked the light, crispy exterior that one would expect from a well-prepared vada. The excessive oil made the vada heavy and unappetizing, which was disappointing to say the least.
On a slightly positive note, the idlis were decent, but they were nothing to boast about. They were fluffy and had a pleasant texture, but the flavor was rather ordinary. I had hoped for a unique twist or some exceptional seasoning, but the idlis at Murugan Idle Shop were quite average in terms of taste.
The saving grace of my visit was the sweet pongal. It was the highlight of the meal, as it had a delightful blend of flavors and the right amount of sweetness. The texture was creamy and smooth, making it the only dish worth mentioning from my dining experience.
Furthermore, the service at Murugan Idle Shop was lackluster. The staff seemed disinterested and inattentive to the needs of the customers. It took a significant amount of time for our orders to arrive, and there was a lack of communication regarding the delays.
Considering the reputation that Murugan Idle Shop has garnered over the years, I expected a much more memorable experience. Unfortunately, the oily vada, ordinary idlis, and mediocre service overshadowed any positives that might have existed. Overall, I left the restaurant feeling dissatisfied and unlikely to return in the future.
If you are looking for exceptional South Indian cuisine, I would recommend exploring other options in the area rather than settling for...
