I visited Banana Leaf Restaurant yesterday with the expectation of enjoying a pleasant dining experience, as this restaurant is often spoken of for its traditional food style. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory, not because of the food itself, but mainly due to the behavior, attitude, and discriminatory practices of the staff and workers employed there.
Food Quality – Average and Nothing Special
The food served was just about okay. Nothing extraordinary, nothing terrible either. The taste was ordinary compared to many other restaurants in Trichy that serve the same kind of traditional dishes. There was no uniqueness, no special aroma or flavor to make it stand out. While some items were edible and acceptable, it was not worth recommending if you are expecting a high-quality meal.
Staff Behavior – The Real Disappointment
What completely ruined the entire dining experience was the attitude of the workers, waiters, dishwashers, and even the support staff. Instead of maintaining professionalism and treating every customer equally, they behaved in a very rude, partial, and judgmental manner.
They were not courteous, not polite, and not welcoming. The workers seemed to act as though customers were disturbing them, rather than being the very reason this restaurant runs. Hospitality was completely missing.
Discrimination Based on Physical Appearance
The most shocking and insulting part of my experience was that customers were not treated equally. There was visible partiality in the way staff behaved with different types of clients:
Clean-shaven customers were treated with more politeness, respect, and attention.
Customers with a beard (like myself) were looked down upon, treated in a disrespectful manner, and even ignored at times.
This kind of attitude is not just unprofessional, but it reflects discrimination based on physical appearance. A restaurant is supposed to welcome all people equally, regardless of how they look, dress, or carry themselves. Food and hospitality have no place for prejudice, but here, judgment was openly practiced by the staff.
If the restaurant truly follows such discrimination, then they should honestly place a banner outside saying:
“Only clean-shaven clients are welcome here. Bearded clients are not allowed.”
At least that way, customers would know beforehand about this ridiculous bias and avoid wasting their...
Read morePoor quality food. Briyani was tasteless . May be as I visited late in the afternoon on week end and it was second batch briyani, master must have managed with what ever left overs to manage crowd. However irrespective of 1st or 2nd batch, they must maintain quality during peak hours, week end hrs etc. all the time. Need to improve a lot to provide good quality briyani. I really got disappointed as this restaurant got good name in public opinion. Still I am thankful as I got some food by 3:30 pm.
Other food I don't know, my experience was with briyani. I am sure after reading this review, manager will discuss with master for required enough masala ingredients before preparing briyani.
Staffs are good, behave professionally dressed in uniform and friendly too. Good quick service. Environment, seating is congested, not spacious.
Rest room they have to maintain, by cleaning often to avoid smell. Even after wearing mask in pandemic it was smelling.Flush not working properly as forced water was not coming out ,after 1 flush at least 5 minute to be waited for flush tank to get filled for second flush. Need to...
Read moreWe recently visited Banana Leaf Restaurant around 3:30 PM, just before closing time, and found limited food options available. Despite this, the supervisor who took our order did his best to accommodate us with the available dishes. We ordered a set of parota, mushroom fried rice, and gobi manchurian. Unfortunately, the taste was severely disappointing and did not meet the standards of a typical restaurant meal. Adding to the frustration, when the parota was served without gravy, it took the lady server over 10 minutes to bring it to us, even after multiple reminders from both myself and the supervisor.
The service was the most disheartening part of our experience. The lady staff seemed more interested in leisurely walking around rather than attending to customers, leading to a observation that they might be better suited for a catwalk stage than restaurant service. This poor service, combined with the subpar food quality, left us thoroughly dissatisfied. My advice to the owner would be to either significantly improve the food and service or consider closing...
