Review: Lama by Yeti, Mall of Dehradun Lama by Yeti on the 5th floor of the Mall of Dehradun is positioned as a fine-dine restaurant, but the experience fell way short of expectations. We ordered the Non-Veg Thakali and Lama Akhai Veg Thali. There was only one person serving the entire floor, the place was crowded and because of that the service was painfully slow. It took an unexpectedly long time for both thalis to arrive. The Veg Thali was decent, but the Non-Veg Thakali — where mutton was supposed to be the highlight — was disappointingly bland. In fact, “bland” would be an understatement. To add to that, the Veg Thali didn’t match the menu description — a paneer dish was served instead, even though paneer wasn’t listed. By then, asking for a replacement would have meant waiting another 15 minutes. The ambience too didn’t reflect a fine-dine experience. The black sofas were not very clean, the furniture looked ordinary, and the artificial plants hanging around gave a casual cafĂ© feel rather than a premium one. Overall, a disappointing experience — slow service, mismatched menu items, and average food. Perhaps thalis aren’t their strong suit, as the place seemed busy with people ordering other items.

I recently visited Lama By Yeti in Dehradun, and while the experience was decent overall, it fell short of expectations given its premium positioning. The ambiance is undoubtedly impressive, with a cozy and aesthetically pleasing setup that sets the mood for a relaxed meal. The service was also good, with courteous staff who ensured that our needs were met promptly. However, the menu felt underwhelming. It lacked variety and creativity, leaving us with limited options to choose from. Despite its sophisticated presentation, the taste of the food was quite average—not bad, but nothing extraordinary either. To add to the disappointment, the restaurant is significantly overpriced for what it offers. The quality and flavors do not justify the hefty price tags, making it feel like you’re paying more for the brand name than the food experience. In summary, Lama By Yeti is one of those places where the first impression is grand, but the actual experience doesn’t live up to the hype. As they say, “Naam Bade Darshan Chote.”

The restaurant positions itself as a premium dining experience. It however fell woefully short on a lot of counts. The good things first..... ambience was great and it almost ended there. The portion size was also good. The food - the complimentary alu chaat was too spicy.....had ordered a sphagetti which was fair.... in fact on the better side. The tomato soup and chopsuey was very average and surprisingly food colour had been used. Fish and chips was below average with the fish overcooked from outside and slightly undercooked from inside. The burnt garlic noodles was too spicy. Lastly the service was slow with dishes coming with longish gap. The fish was forgotten and the waiter had to be reminded and ultimately we had to get it packed. It was the first time that I refused to pay service charges and from now on will make it a point to pay only if service has been provided.

Terrible Service, Incompetent Management & Poor Hospitality

I visited Lama by Yeti at the Mall of Dehradun yesterday, and let me warn you not to trust the overly positive reviews—they are clearly misleading. Our experience was one of the worst in terms of service and hospitality.

The moment we sat down, it took 15 minutes just to get someone to bring regular water, despite us requesting it upon entry. The staff was inattentive, and only one waiter approached us in a rushed manner, barely giving us time to place our order.

We ordered Ema datshi and Thakali Thali. We specifically spoke to the manager, Mr. Mahendra, beforehand, requesting that he at least ensure a smooth experience. However, when the food arrived after a long wait, it was a huge disappointment. The Ema datshi was decent, but the Thakali Thali was completely subpar—the dal was too watery, and the paneer lacked any proper gravy, tasting watered down and bland.

To make matters worse, we asked for clean plates, but the staff took forever to comply. We ended up finishing our meal in the same thali, which is simply unacceptable for a restaurant that claims to offer quality service. Getting the bill was another ordeal, as we had to wait more than 10 minutes before the manager even acknowledged us.

The height of incompetence came when the manager, Mr. Mahendra, instead of taking responsibility for the terrible service, tried to offer us a complimentary dessert as compensation. This was not only inadequate but also disrespectful, as if a dessert could erase such a frustrating experience.

To top it all off, we witnessed another table of four cancel their order and leave due to similar issues. What’s even more shocking is that we had visited earlier on a weekday when they had only two staff members, yet the service was significantly better than what we experienced this time.

This visit proved that the management is completely incompetent, and the hospitality is non-existent. If you’re expecting even basic professionalism and customer care, look...

Today I went to visit Mall of Dehradun with my friend, then when we felt hungry, we went to this restaurant for lunch, whose name was - Lama by yeti the himalayan kitchen. The ambiance was quite nice, then a lady waiter attended us and gave us the menu. I ordered strawberry shake, coke and pasta arrabiata. The lady waiter who took my order probably made a mistake in taking the order. She ordered pasta alfredo sauce instead of pasta arrabiata sauce in the kitchen. After a long time a waiter came with my order of pasta. I saw that the pasta was made in alfredo sauce. I told the waiter that I had ordered pasta arrabiata sauce. The waiter took the alfredo sauce pasta back to the kitchen to change it, I thought that now the pasta will be made in arrabiata sauce again. But the pasta was not prepared in arrabiata sauce by the chef, rather that pasta was served to us with modifications in the mixed sauce by adding a little bit of arrabiata sauce to the alfredo sauce pasta. We were very hungry, so we had to eat that mixed sauce pasta. This is a very cheap act, customers should not be...
