It was the first time I & my family ate chicken betutu Men Tempeh at its origin restaurant (last time I asked my sister to buy it for me). We chose to find a table on the lower ground, near the stairs. It was around 3.30pm and were only 2-3 tables occupied. I came to the counter to order the food. The lady at the cashier assisted me on choosing the menu as there are many options. The menu she suggest was perfect for 5 of us (2 adults + 3kids). It was complete package which include 1/2 chicken betutu original and 1/2 spicy chicken betutu, steam rice, veggie, sambal matah, sambal merah, fried peanut and ice tea/hot tea. I settled the payment and went back to my table to see that my baby spill the bottle water on the table. My husband ask one of the waitress to wipe it with napkin (instead of using tissue that available on the table which a pity for us to just use it to wipe the water spread on the table), she nodded and gone away. My husband were standing next to his seat as the water flowing close to the edge of the table. We thought she gone and will come soon. We wait for more than 10mins, the waitress didn't come, so we ask them again to wipe the table. Then she finally come with the napkin, wiping the table unwillingly and left. It was still wet. With no further ado, we finally pull the tissue and wipe the table to dry it. We wait and wait, for us its pretty long, since the restaurant wasn't that crowd, only 2-3 tables occupied the food finally came after 20mins. The chicken betutu was nice and the sambal matah was really really good. After finish the meal, we left straight away.
For us, the restaurant is a place to 'eat only' and leave, not a place to eat and savour every bite of the meal, besides considering the ambiance and the service.
The toilet, especially the closet was only the bowl without rim, so you need to do half squat.
The parking lot was huge,...
Read moreIt's serve a very delicious Ayam Betutu, an originally chicken dish with a rich traditional seasonings. Available in 2 version, original (texture is moist and juicy) & fried (texture is dry and little bit hard to chew).
Every order of this dish will come with spicy sambal matah & sambal terasi, steamed vegetables, & fried peanut.
The sitting area is large enough, you can choose between outdoor or indoor. Toilet are clean. Musholla is available. From the main road heading to Gilimanuk Harbor it takes around 10 minutes. Just use Google Map to make you easier to find it.
Quality of service from the waitress actually isn't that bad, but the cashier just terrible. This young lady really can't provide you a sincere smile, even when I remind her that 1 additional item of my order wasn't served yet. No apologise. Mostly when you have many questions, she seems doesn't like to give an answer. Luckily the taste of food are nice.
Each portion of ayam Betutu with rice cost for 44,000 rupiah. Little bit pricy. But it's worthy, since they guarantee that they...
Read moreI've lost count of how many times I've visited this place. Every time I'm in Bali, I always make it a point to stop by. The distinctive flavor of their Ayam Betutu (Balinese-style roasted chicken) really stands out. Even though there are many other restaurants around here that serve Ayam Betutu, I've never felt the urge to try them. In my opinion, the Ayam Betutu at Men Tempeh is just right.
Sometimes, the food here can be a bit off, perhaps due to insufficient cooking time, which means the spices don't fully penetrate and the chicken can be a bit tough. That's definitely a major drawback. However, I think the prices here are fair, the place is clean, the parking is spacious, and the service is fast. I'd give the food a rating of 4.8 out of 5, service 5 out of 5, cleanliness 4.8 out of 5, and prices 5 out of 5.
To the owner, I'd suggest paying closer attention to quality control so that the food is...
